Why not? Its only takes a few minutes and you may or may not get a good link. Is that few minutes worth that?
Agreed ... I was actually surprised to see that a site of ours made it in within 3 months. I recently checked (using search feature) and the site said it wasnt listed but was when i checked the inner catagory it was still there so... (might want to check the actual categories for confirmation) PS this thread should have been in DMOZ section thx malcolm
When your site is newly approved, it will not appear in DMOZ search results right away. It takes days (less than a week actually) for it to appear there, because their database is updated in that fashion. Likewise, when you submit a site there, it doesn't appear right away internally. This is because it has to pass through their spam filter first before getting to the editors. I agree with you that this thread should be in the dedicated DMOZ section.
I have had sites listed in dmoz, unlisted, and then listed again. I wish those people would make up their minds.
Whenever your site shows error 404, redirection, suspended by your host or malware, the editors will keep your site in un-reviewed section. They will normally wait for it to show up, before adding it again to the public section. This may have been what happened to your site, though I'm not too sure.
That's usually done by our automated QC tools. When editors check them and see they're back, or find the new url (if there is one), then we'll add them back in.
Well, if it was all done by machines, your sites might have simply remained unlisted. As crowbar explained, it takes a human volunteer to look for a replacement URL or notice that the site is now complete or working again.
i thinks submit your sites in Dmoz.org is worth lot more but Dmoz are still not approved my sites since last 9 months. i hope if the dmoz moderator approved my site it's will worth lot more for me.
The worth of your site should have nothing to do with which Directory it's listed in. If you had 100,000 visitors a day, it wouldn't make your site a good one, it would just mean you managed to get them to visit you, not that they would buy whatever you're offering. If it's not what they are looking for, it would just make them angry that you wasted their time.
It is less than a minute of your time. How could it not be worth it to suggest your site to a free directory of such power?
