Users need to become more educated if they want to stop their accounts from being spammed and phished. They aren't free of responsibility.

Some simple changes in their privacy settings can stop ALL comment spam. Message spam is a problem, but it really isn't that big of a problem. You can spot spam messages a mile away and mass delete, and even if you don't they take about 3 seconds to delete manually.

Stopping phishing is the easiest problem to deal with. All you need to do is change your PW regularly and watch the URLs you're enter your PW into.

When would it be imperative to send more than one message every 60 seconds? Take note that DP has that limitation and is one of the most spam-free communities around.

Bottom line is the greedy, unscrupulous, immature spammers ruin it for us all.

As soon as MySpace starts deleting the millions of bot added accounts that dillute the quality of the community, as I said before, MySpace will be a stronger communications/networking vehicle for the legitamate and socially responsible users.

Web 2.0 is at a stage of evolution where quality is becoming more important than quantity.

What if you're a MySpace teenager and want to send a message to 20 of your friends? I'm sure this happens a lot. Adding a 60 second penalty after each message would ruin it for them.

I believe what I posted above is the truth. Users need to be properly educated if they want to fully enjoy a service like MySpace. Responsibility is key.

Dont pull out the "web 2.0" crap.... Myspace will not stop spamming, the end.
As long as there are millions of users, they will be tapped by every person with a brain. Myspace is like highschool popularity contest where the more friends, the better; and with a system that focuses on quantity, not quality (to slap you in the face) it sets the stage for spamming. usenet anyone?

As always, spammers have shifted from hacking/viruses to social engineering.

MYSPACE wants to get serious? FINE.

Not only am I blocking the people who send me comment spam, I am flagging them as spam AND reporting them as scams.

We'll see how long and if MySpace ever takes action on them.

Most of them are phished profiles you say? TS!! If you're stupid enough to get phished you ought o have your account deleted!!

Why so negative. If you seek the negative in a situation that's all you will find. Even MySpace has a positive side and a lot of GOOD potential. I'm certain they(MySpace) are intent on keeping a safe and clean place.

If you want to look at the negative side. Look at the spamming creeps and don't blame MySpace for actively trying to stop them.

I have to say your point of view is terribly skewed to blame the phishee and not the phisher. Kinda like blaming the homeowner who gets robbed for not getting a big enough lock or blaming the rape victim for dressing provocatiely.

    Is not!

    I blame everyone

It starts with the phisher(sneaky bastards) and then **MySpace(sporadic education and reminders) and then the phishee(being gullible enough to fall for it) in that order.

I also blame you for poor analogies :p

    ----------------------------

** ALSO, why the frick can't myspace just "lock" those profiles that have been phished??? They've locked me twice for sending birthday comments!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's so damn obvious the spam comments...free $500 gift card, free ifone, check to see who is tracking your profile, I get the same 5 damn comments everyday...lock that S up!

    Bunch of monkeys @ MySp

Sorry, the anologies may have been extreme, but were succinct with your original statement.

**Oh yeah, let's penalize the victim(sarcasm)

I e-mailed Michelle (from Badder Adder) to offer legal advice and/or off-shore hosting. This is the response I got

That being said; FriendAdder (www.friendadder.com) and Friend Blaster Pro (www.addnewfriends.com) both appear to still work; as well as both of their sites still active (unlike Badder Adder's site). But I wouldn't recommend dropping another $50+ on these software programs, as the likelihood of their demise is almost inevitable.

Looks like something is happening over at mysapce:

    Message frome Tom yesterday:

    MySpace Announcement

    Latest Update: Mar 24, 2007 3:00pm, PST

I know a lot of you are seeing spam comments on your page. sorry about that! The super nasty ones block your other comments. They also may not be easy to delete. Here's how to get rid of them: from your home page, click "edit profile," then click "safe edit mode" in the top right corner of the edit page. next, click the "comments" tab. from here you'll be able to delete the comments individually.

just fyi, we are in the process of taking legal action against the losers behind this comment spam. bad news is that's going to take awhile because courts are slow, good news is we won some recent cases which is going to make it easy to punish the beejesus out of them. also, we're working on a filter that will stop it from happening altogether.. that should be done in a few days.

My sister can't log in but I can, it must be maintenances. It will never be over imo, there are several little bots that raise as soon as the big ones went down, several of these small bots use the same source code or have the same coders as the large bots. There will always be a way around I think maybe myspace should just give it up.

will be interesting to see whether this 'filter to stop the spamming alltogether' really works :)
