I have adf.ly links within posts (for regular members) and a peerfly banner in the footer. The Alexa rank is getting higher and higher actually because I have promoted the forum a bit. I bought the forum in mid-May and have no idea what the history is on the site. It was quite active, lost its activity then I bought it and am making it active once more.
We are now at 19,600+ posts and still growing! I also got rid of the links at the bottom and put them at the top. Looks much more organized now. I centered the content in the footer so that looks much more organized as well. I'm tweaking the colours right now and seeing what works, but the current coding in the template makes it a little difficult. Anyway, anymore suggestions are welcomed.
