*big breath* ok! here it goes. i've been a member of these forums for a while now, and while i must admit when i first came here, i did so under the premise of seo, the entire discussion around adsense got me thinking - can this be real? wow really? no way! as if! hahaha these guys must be on weed or something. but you know, after search a while and reading countless threads, there may be something is that more than meets the eye (so to speak). so after the first 2-3 weeks, i began my own website with adsense to see how it went. after applying all the tips and hints, the site gained $1 / day relatively easy. after that, i got lazy so i just left the site there alone for months (although i did add content and news occasionally). now i'm back again, and here it goes, my journey into the world of adsense, recorded for time immemorial. so here it goes! hope you guys are here to enjoy the ride with me, and hey - we all might learn a thing or too. this thread is an educative one, so your input is wanted and greatly appreciated. the method i use to create my adsense sites 1) i create my adsense sites in a folder under one of my my main high traffic site (10,000+ unique visitors / day) so SEO is a lot easier and the pages get indexed faster. 2) i choose categories that are searched often in google, and look like they'll be interesting to create for me to create these sites 3) i use the same template for each adsense site + ad positioning (subscribing to the notion to that it is better to have multiple streams of income rather than one big site - although i'm not going to complain if that happens) 4) i add basic content to these sites that will be interesting to the reader, but also content that will able to 'stand the test of time'. interesting things of note: 1) even though i didn't do much changes to the site after it was created, the adsense earnings slowly grew by themselves from $1 / day to $5 / day current reached milestone: $5 / day next milestone: $10 / day how it will be reached: the creation of multiple areas of interest sites based on the same premise of the previous one - the sites were selected based on the most searched google terms. seo will thus play an important factor - so i will employ basic seo techniques, and use linking from a high traffic site for instant page indexation and a push in the SERPS. things i will need to be careful of: the sites should not be made for adsense - thus there needs to be an adequate deal of content on each of these sites so that they are not in violation of adsense TOS. additionally, the site should be interesting to the average viewer, with enough information to compell them for further reading.
It's going to be an interesting experiment to see which website will earn more money with Google Adsense between http://www.pinkpt.com/dance/ and http://www.pinkpt.com/money/. The first website (dance) has three Google Adsense banner type advertisements throughout every page resulting in 13 text advertisements (including 4 link ones) in contrast to the second (money) which has only a 468x60 Google Adsense banner displaying 2 text advertisements on it. Arguably, I'd say they were both good placements. Both backgrounds and borders have been blended into the site layout so that they become invisible and transparent, and the link colors are modified so they look are consistent with the links that appear throughout the sites. (One of the first lessons which you will learn from using Google Adsense is to blend in the advertisements so they look like a part of your website.) I have an inkling that dance will be the clear winner, but you never know unless you try. (Second lesson using Google Adsense is play with everything until you find something that works for you - it is different for everyone and every site.) A lot of people swear that using the box advertisement is very effective, however, I still haven't done this yet (which I know is contrary to what I stated before) but I will implement it soon with the money website - then the experiment should yield more interesting results. Of course, the dance website has been around a lot longer than this one, but that will all be factored in with advertisement impressions and such.
Thanks Matthew. As I said, I can't believe people are making so much money - it definitely leaves me with my mouth wide open. And hey, the extra pocket money can't be that bad.
Yep! And you seem to be going about it in the right way rather then "why havent I made $1000 in my first day"
lol well... truth be told, i was going to do that, until i realized this might be more productive then sitting around and whining
Can I get an experienced opinion on what you guys think of the adsense placing on this site? http://www.thedailyneopets.com/ (not my site).
They are not in the hotspots which will get ost click throughs. They need to be top left navigation and top (just above the content) and also in the content towards the top left of the top article
Thought so Thanks. I've implemented the large box advertisements on http://www.pinkpt.com/money/ in the article areas now div--ved (past tense?) to the right so we'll see how that goes As "dance" site and "money" site now have equal advertisements roughly, the ad placement should be interesting - although I'm betting my hat that http://www.pinkpt.com/money/ will win overall - it is, after all, commonly accepted that these box ads do well - additionally, the placement is in a hot spot.
The dance website is very well done. I like the actual navigation being untraditionally on the right, whilst adsense on the left... naturally browsers pay attention to the left for navigation. Also boxing the content is a reverse of unboxing ads - it creates a border around the content and more attention on areas without borders (as borders form an automatic boundary in a browser's mind). Did you write the content yourself or source articles? Also, with regards to SEO, you're using dynamic links/URLs which are not ideal!
Thanks. That was why I made it like that People look on the left expecting a navigation --> they see that first. So you suggest unboxing the update content area? Half / half. I'm going to be hiring some content writers to fill out these areas soon. Yep I know lol. However, the pinkpt.com domain uses mod-rewrite from index.php?page=whatever to whatever.htm --> and unfortuantely, that effects every folder within the domain, so if I link a page within the dance site i.e. http://www.pinkpt.com/dance/something.htm --> it will change to http://www.pinkpt.com/something.htm and give an error message. Total pain in the behind.
Nope, sorry I meant that as a good thing (for adsense anyway)! The content boxes are quite cluttered whereas the adsense links look more spacious. Sorry if that makes little sense lol. You can but another .htaccess with its own rewrite rules in the dance folder or add new rules in the default .htaccess. It is very possible!
hey Yukio, good luck with your stuff. I'm pretty much doing the same over my blog (you can see it in my signature) though I'm currently writing more towards tips and tricks but I can see that your method could be really interesting. I hope to see a lot of update from your part on this "project". Once again, good luck and have fun with it.
