I just heard on the news that black Americans have there own national anthem. I think who ever did this is nuts! They think it will bring us closer together? I think it divides us even more! The national anthem is for all Americans as one!

    What do you guys think?

Is it the same anthem? If you google this all the hipe started on the 2nd. I think we should only use our national anthem. Next thing you know everyone is going to want there own. I would say 3 percent of black people living in America are actually from Africa. The rest are black americans. I don't know why almost every black person in America thinks there African-American. Your nationality is African but you can't be African-American unless you were born in Africa and moved to America. Man this "Black Anthem" is BS. Were all Americans.. why cant we all be proud of our national anthem.

Maybe Obama will change that to the real National Anthem.

Um...we didn't really see the need for it either but since we were never really included in the Constitution, or the Bill of Rights when this country was started, We kind of figured that African American was better than being called "Colored", or "Negro" which is what we were called through the 60's by the rest of America. And even that was better than "N**er", which we were called for 400 years.

I am sure one day people won't see the need to separate Americans based on their race, but unfortunately, white Americans still feel the need.

Most of the Black people I know think of themselves as Americans, plain and simple, until someone makes it painfully clear that some people still think of us as a "species". It's unavoidable...America is still run by fear, arrogance, and prejudice.

First of all, it is not a black national anthem. There is only one National anthem.

This is merely a classic poem.

What happened in Denver was that a woman who was asked to sing the National Anthem secretly decided and did sing the poem instead. That was not appropriate as she was asked and agreed to sing the national anthem. She should be criticized - not the poem.

We are all citizens of America regardless of race. I find posting of threads like these much more offensive than someone who sings a poem. Why did the OP post this? He didn't even both to read and understand what happened. Pretty pathetic to me. It is impossible to deny that the American ideals were denied to blacks in this country for far too long and to criticize black Americans from finding solace in this poem is absurd.

well, this was the main reason why African Americans composed their own anthem.. however, i don't think it is necessary now because America is now like the ocean full of fish of different colors.. red, black, blue, green, white, etc., but the fact still remains; they are all fish and they live in the ocean.:)

If people want to sing "Lift Every Voice and Sing" then go ahead. But it should be sung after the Star-Spangled Banner and not replace it.

It would be offensive and wrong to replace the National Anthem with anything else. Other than that, I have no problem with people singing any song they wish.

I couldn't agree more. There are some things that you just don't do.
You don't fly any other flag above old glory.
The National Anthem comes first in any sporting event in this country no matter who is on the other side.

I don't care what your political views are,U.S. Patriotism comes first.
