the bl tracker shows 3k links, site: only shows 650, why?

If I use the kw tracker or McDar tools, G shows over 3k in IBL's. In G, if I do a "site: www.mysite.com" it only shows about 658 IBL's. Is there something else I should be looking at or another syntax I should be using? All the data centers show the 3k+ links and I'm not sure why can't see them in the site: command.

The site: function shows how many pages are in your site, it does not show you links to your site. You would want to use the link: function for that.

duh, thanks. It's been so long since I've done this manually because of all the tools out there, I couldn't remember. ;)

edit: I just did the link: option and it only shows 461 links. But the k/w tracker still shows 3k+ Now I'm really confused.

I think the API returns a different set of results.

What's this SE? Silly question - silly answer? :D

Did anyone throw a big party on the weekend I missed? Seems like we are particularly unsharp today...

site: only delivers partial answers, because google does not want to share your competitors information with you...
