The Biggest Marketing Lie #2 : "Advertising Is Costly" Advertising is only costly when it doesn’t work. That’s it, you can pack your bags and get off this thread…now. But we like details, so lets keep moving forward shall we? Many business folks think advertisings’ too costly for them and are only for big companies. This belief comes from spending cash on advertising, getting ZERO results. Look, anytime you spend money on advertising, and you DON’T track your spending and results of those efforts, your marketing will ALWAYS be expensive. Start associating every dollar spent or every ounce of your time with an equal or greater return. It’ll be easier to see advertising as a valuable investment rather than a costly hobby. The secret is to test your advertising on a smaller scale FIRST and then explode it once you learn EXACTLY what creates a Return On Investment for you. Bottom line, Advertising IS expensive when it doesn’t work. And to be completely honest with you, advertising “doesn’t work†more frequently than it does. (Time to think outside the box) But what the smart ones do that everyone else doesn’t, they smart small (like I stated above). Run small tests that won’t break their wallets or waste to much of their time if they fail. There are highly effective marketing strategies out there, and then there is the opposite side of that coin. It is important you know which ones have the potential to pull the best for your particular product/service, and which ones don’t. The best way to know ahead of time without making costly/timely mistakes, is to learn what a lot of those strategies are, so you can better assess what is the right direction for your advertising dollars (and/or time) should take. If you are short on advertising ideas, I have a nice collection of advertising ideas and strategies I use to get tons of leads and traffic. You won’t be using EVERY effective marketing strategy, at least not just yet. But you will want to use at least 2-3 at first to get your feet wet and work diligently. As you see results, and you will see results, you can branch out to other forms of targeted advertising. *Here’s a quick hint – I’m using one of those strategies, right now, and it works beautifully * Sometimes you WILL have to just take the plunge on an advertising idea and spend some test dollars/time to see if it works for you. You shouldn’t necessarily pull the plug if it isn’t working immediately, but you should know from extensive testing if you should pull the plug on that technique.
