There's a hell of a lot of mish mash around about what you have to do to get your site highly ranked in the Search Engines, and I'm no pro either but it seems to me that Link Development is one of the most universally recognised methods. I just wanted to ask everyone if they would answer some questions so we can share experiences, ideas and techniques. How heavily do you work on Link Development? As a ratio to all promotional work you do to your site? Do you go for popular Keywords or less popular Key Phrases? (ie. Less Competition/Less Visitors or More Competition/More Potential Visitors) Favourite Link Development Techniques? Have you managed to rank really well for a competitive term from link development? Finally, Do you reccommend a heavy emphasis on it or would you reccomend a little, but more work on other promotional techniques. Okay so I'll get the ball rolling. 1-I used to not work on it much at all, a couple of directories here and there. I managed to get a site #1 for a Keyphrase - wasn't hugely competitive market or anything but it convinced me to do more work on link development. 2-Normally I target relatively uncompetitive Key Phrases (5k-10k overture searches) 3-Directories, Commenting on Blogs and Forums. I also do a fair bit of good old Link Exchanging with other relevant sites. 4-No, just a Keyphrase that had less than 2k searches on overture. 5-I have no idea really, that's why I want to hear from you guys!
As for me it is one of the most important direction of SEO works. So after all the on-page optimization is done I spend practically all my time getting qualitative links I usually pay attention to the words\phrases that are the most relevant for my pages Well, I prefer not very competitive keywords Directory submission, good articles writing Well, what other promotional techniques do you know?
1. How heavily do you work on Link Development? As a ratio to all promotional work you do to your site? About 70-80% 2. Do you go for popular Keywords or less popular Key Phrases? (ie. Less Competition/Less Visitors or More Competition/More Potential Visitors) A combination of both. I optimise sites using a wide range of related phrases on each page. Longer tail keyphrases can be ranked using on page optimisation alone. More competitive phrases require link building, but in targeting these the 'worth/trust' of a domain rises, so in turn to the rankings on other keywords. 3. Favourite Link Development Techniques? Keep is as varied as possible. Using one technique is always going to be risky. Article writing, directory submissions, linkbait, sponsored links, blog postings are all worth doing. Also concentrate on relevance rather than PR. 4. Have you managed to rank really well for a competitive term from link development? Yes, for many 5. Finally, Do you reccommend a heavy emphasis on it or would you reccomend a little, but more work on other promotional techniques. Link development is the most effective and cheapest (in the long run) way of getting traffic. I'd use other techniques for short term traffic generation such as PPC eMail marketing and social networking and these can be developed further depending on their ROI.
1) 50% of the time/effort 2) less popular Key Phrases. 3) Directories, paid links 4) No 5) 50% of the time/effort
1. yes, i give so much effort to the link development . %70 2. Less Competition/Less Visitors 3. directories, blog reviews and forum posts 4. no 5. %70
I think linkbait, article submission and press-release distribution is also a way of link development. So... 99,9% of time Less popular, more targeted Social bookmarking, articles, press-releases I can't say that I am ranked well just from link development, all the SEO complex is important I would recommend to promote with links in the mind
