Mine is doing pretty okay. I got two high bidders in the last week The increase in PR probably helped...
I am ending my involvement in the bid directory industry and switching to the conventional-type ones. I have three bid directories and all of them have been penalised by Google so now I have PR0 for each. All that effort in building links and submitting to other directories went down the drain. I am not too sad at the loss, however, since I have more than covered the initial investment. So I am going to just discontinue the directories and start focusing my energies on my existing conventional-type directories.
By discontinue you mean pull the plug? What about all the people who spent money with you? Why not just let them stay running or try selling them.
I don't think there's any point continuing them anyway but if anyone is interested I am willing to sell the licenses + content for my two phpLB directories to them. I no longer have any interest in the bidding directory industry, I seem to jive well with the conventional-type ones. It has been a good experience for me.
sorry for this noob question how bidding works in phpld ? if i bid on link for 5$ it comes first and if some one bids on 6$ then i lost right ?
You don't lose anything, your listing just moves below the $6 bid. It's not an auction; your basically paying for a listing and you can bid more to be higher up in the categories or top 10
chandan123 -- If you bid $7, you could pay an extra $1 (or more) to keep your listing position (otherwise, Your listing would be placed under the Higher Bid listing that is above Your listing). I hope that helps.
- I understand your frustration, but I also have conventional-type directories (and they have been affected by Lowered PageRank too). Personally, I don't think PR is "everything" as I continue to get bids on my PR0 bidding directories (even though I am working to increase their PR). - Also, I prefer bidding directories (compared to conventional-type directories) because you have the option of Automating everything (from Submission to Payment to Approval). Spam Submissions aren't a problem either (as I have found to be the case with conventional-type directories).
thanks but is there any kind of amount bidders can deposit ? because if bidding goes in 1$ increments paypal fee may take all money
chandan123 -- Yes, the kind of amount Bidders can deposit is usually $1 or $2 (so the Paypal Fee wouldn't take all money).
circlecity -- Yes, my Bidding Directories are set to a $2 minimum for 1 Permanent Link (and a $4 minimum for 5 Deep Links).
websites get penalised because the owner certainly have purchase a domain with a higher pr in the first place and setup a website using the domain and went the next pr comes, it re-calculate it's true value.
Agreed, one of my site used to have PR5 but traffic was so so.. At one time, I almost stop doing all the links thingy. It dropped to PR1 since then. I concentrate on my content instead and traffic is much better then b4 now.
I think that is true, I started my bidding directory, BidLinks.org from scratch over 2 years ago and it is enjoying some nice PR now, where as many others that start with a PR3-PR4 are losing theirs. I would recommend to start with a fresh domain with no PR and then there is no way to go but up!
- I agree. You don't know the History of a previously-registered domain name with G**gle which May, or May-not decrease the PR of the domain name in the Long-term (regardless of any Link-building you would do to increase it).
I never liked putting my links on directories with previously registered domain names. It is quite obvious that the PR is likely to fluctuate because the content has changed.
