The Bidding Directory Thread

Discussion in 'Directories' started by tensmar, Jan 26, 2009.

  1. #1
    Hi Everyone,

Knowing there are many Bidding Directory owners (and being an owner of Bidding Directories myself), I thought I would start a thread to discuss all of the various different aspects of owning/operating a Bidding Directory...
    SEMrush
    - Bidding Directory Domains/Websites.
    - Bidding Directory Scripts/Software.
    - Bidding Directory Traffic/Revenue.

    * And anything else about Bidding Directories! :)

I think Bidding Directories are a great way to generate Autopilot Revenue while keeping the Server Resources (Diskspace and Bandwidth) to a minimum.
I also think Bidding Directories are relatively easy to Startup and Operate (which makes them a good choice for Newbies).

    What do YOU think? :D

    Sincerely,

    Jeff

Bidding directories are a niche sector, some will do well, some will fail

Depends on many factors but if you work on your site, likely it will do well. If you neglect the site, it's likely to fail

They are a business just like any other business, and from my general experience here in DP over 90% of posters have not got 'one single clue how to run a business'
(general comment no reference meant or inferred to the OP)

The 10% or so who have experience will do very well in any market..........they know who they are ;)

If people actually ran them properly and professionally, that would be fine. I think changes to many aspects can make them both more popular and sustainable, but right now the "get rich quick" and the dropped domain crowd and making the rest of the owners look like scammers too.

There are some decently run and well edited bid directories around, it's just a shame the idiots that are around come and spoil it for them by tarnishing all bid directories with the same scammy paint.

I am actually quite happy with how my sole bidding directory is faring for the last few months. In an effort to keep it in good stead, I actually turned away quite a few bids from adult and casino / gaming sites. No less than $100. But I think in the long run, it should keep my existing bidders happy :D

Talking about bidding directories, I wonder if there are any freelance bidding directory theme designers out there who can do a job as good as phplinkbid. Any recommendations out there?

britishguy -- I agree with your comments. Knowledge AND Experience are Very Important in Business.

daredashi -- Are you wanting us to Review your 2 Bidding Directories?

mikey1090 -- Unfortunately, I think it is that way with most things (the Minority making it hard for the Majority).

pablopabla -- I think Manually Reviewing/Administering each Bid/Submission (like yourself) is a good idea (if you have the time to do it).

pablopabla -- I can't think of Freelance Bidding Directory Theme Designers (other than phpLinkBid) I would recommend.

mikey1090 -- I couldn't think of Freelance Bidding Directory Theme Designers, pablopabla, but mikey1090 offers this service.

Well, it's not much work actually. Afterall, it's just about a minute's work to see what kind of site is bidding for a place in my directory and the amount placed as a bid more than justifies the time spent :D

I suggest you accept casino/adult sites. Make money while you can, these sites will be penalized sooner or later.

    Adwords = traffic
Bid directories = to help improve SERPs

pablopabla -- Knowing the Website Niche, and the Bid Amount for a Submission to your Bidding Directory is especially important if you have a Human-Edited Bidding Directory.

WebHostingBucket -- I don't necessarily mind Casino Bids, but I am reluctant to accept Adult Bids.

scoobby -- That is pretty good (PR4 for a Bidding Directory)- alot of Bidding Directories are less.

WebHostingBucket -- I understand what you are saying, but then where does that leave All of the Directories (Bidding or Non-Bidding) for the Future?

pablopabla -- Yes, all Bidding Directories basically sell links (as well as Non-Bidding Directories).

scoobby -- I think Bidding Directories are more like Selling Links (than like Selling Advertising).

mikey1090 -- Yes, Adwords is obviously used to increase Traffic, and the better SEO'd your Bidding Directory is, the better your SERP's (should be).

I have had the same bidding directory for over 1.5 years now and I definitely will continue to run it.

I think a lot of people find value in the links from my dir because they will get 2 indexed links in google from the site. Check any of the links on there and you will see they all have an indexed link from the directory. Check HERE and HERE and HERE or any other link on the site - You will see the indexed link from bidlinks.org on the first page, often before the actual website - So $2 isn't bad for 2 indexed links from a PR site.

It continues to get submissions so obviously some have seen the value in the links. There are a lot of crappy ones out there, but there are still some good, honest ones around too.

It's kinda hard to look for good ones - those built from scratch and earned their PR and SERP spurs. There are far too many bidding directory owners ought to make a quick buck by grabbing a dropped domain and instantly soliciting for business with pitches like "New PR5 Bidding Directory".

I agree with you, I think that pretty much ruined it for as all, when all those came around to fool people with their dropped domains ajchedwid7364fje.com that is a forged PR5 and slap a directory and then sell "PR 5 links" - That was the beginning of the end I think, but those who know about directories know what is legit. There are few of us out there I think how ever . . . ;)

Yeah, because most have been penalised, therefore they must have been doing something wrong.
