All in One SEO Pack is you best choice. Stick to that. Easy to use and effective. Also, do use the tag system that was integrated with Wordpress 2.3 because it really helps you get high on search engine terms, if you know which to use.

I do use many plugins, but I too would rate all-in one-seo wpplugin and apart from that Akismet is also a good one as it eliminates the SPAM.

Just make sure your permalinks SPELL out your url's... Easy to do no plugin needed.

Using well worded post slugs can help you but out of the box WP doesn't allow you to include custom meta descriptions for each post which is an important part of the process. All-In-One does that for you.

If you are using <more> tags, there's no need to noindex categories.. make sure they have unique titles and descriptions, and these pages will bring you some more traffic.

Using the <more> tag certainly helps prevent the duplication from your index page and using excerpts in your category and archive pages help but you're still potentially going to get stuff flagged as dupe if it can be found on your index, your category archive, your dated archive and your XML feed. That's how a robots.txt file can help.

Dated/author archives should be deindexed, this is true. There was a plugin for that, called Robots Meta (if you're not familiar with robots.txt structure).
