The Best Way to Utilize Linkmarket and Linkmetro style Sites...?

Hello everyone,

I've been using linkmetro and linkmarket for a few months now and find the most frustrating thing is the sites that want to exchange links that are not relevant to your site.

So, I was wondering what everyone thinks is the best way to utilize link exchange sites. Pay the fee for an upgrade account, or is there a way to use these sites effectively for free?

I would steer clear of em, they generally just want trash link exchanges.
