Could anyone advise on the best way to promote and get links for a

Real Estate Site

Also i am told there is more value in getting links from similar sites? is this true?
I would just assume that a search engine seems one site the same as another? rather than being able to differentiate between similiar sites or not?

Try jumping over to www.realestatewebmasters.com/forum.php . They have a lot of RE webmasters wanting to exchange links. There are already so many real estate directories out there. Go and hit those up.

I've optimized my fair share of real estate websites, got top rankings for hundreds of them.

Stay within the real estate niche attaining links. I've got a lot of sites in top 10 within G, Y!, and MSN just doing reciprocal linking, but with ONLY real estate websites. There are a lot of real estate agents out there, you'll have no trouble finding link partners.

well a good way is to submit your link to directories and ask other real estate site webmasters to exchange links. The best way is to get targeted links since google will like that.

No, not really related Moneyfolk. I would say Mortgage is the furthest someone should go in the real estate arena for exchanging links.

But there are plenty of sites out there with Credit Card websites, its a hot and profitable topic.

 

If you have optimized hundreds of them you can't get top rankings for hundreds of them because you can only have ten out the hundreds on page one.

I've read in seo books that the search engines give more importance to sites that have links from the same category pointing at them. If I were you I would go to the search engine, find the top real estate sites, and check their backlinks and see who links to them. Then I would email those sites for a link exchange. It should work excellent.

 

There are over a million real estate agents in the US. I've ranked hundreds of agent sites for their "city" real estate, "city" homes, "city" real estate agent, etc...

 

How about writing some articles that other agents/site would pick up? There are over 100 real estate article sites where you can post articles plus others who could pick up on the article and post on their sites.

I would recommend you doing a linkdomain:yourcompetitorsite.com search at Yahoo and analyzing their backlinks.
