Hello. I hope someone can help me understand.

What is the best and fastest way to get the duplicate content removed from google index?

    a) htaccess 404 redirect (don't prefer it because they still appear in google webmaster tool (as crawl errors)
    b) htaccess 301 redirect to homepage
    c) insert that pages in robots.txt ant tell google to stop crawling them?

    What is the fastest way?

Also can someone tell what is the difference between 404 and robots.txt URL blocking? Is'n it true that both of them result into a certain url to be removed from google? if so, what is the difference between them (if both has the same effect)? If an url is blocked via robots..it is also removed from google right? Also I see if 404 redirect the url is also removed from index..I can't understand what is best for SEO and also the fastest way.

First of all, define duplicate content. On your site or on a different site?

If the page is getting no entry traffic and its a poor quality page, I'd just delete the page. Eventually the page will get deindexed and you will no longer have the duplicate content.
