This is correct.

On that note, it's also important to get no-follow links in addition to the do-follow links. It's more natural that way. But for me, writing articles and submitting them to Ezine, Buzzle, Articlesbase and the likes is the best way to get backlinks because you can also get a lot of traffic that way.
