For me the best way to get traffic is good keyword research and loads of content for the keywords. Also social networking and articles work very well for me!
I've been using ebay about me page, keyword research using LSI, and all of the social bookmarking sites to rank well and receive traffic. Traffic varies greatly on the topic that you choose, I find I get better traffic with an extremely target niche, I use the ebay categories to find a really good niche..just see what is selling the best, or even the hot trends at google. Bigger niches I don't get as good results.
