My advice is to stick with the top article directories, they only promote quality content so Panda didn't have much effect on them.

 

Focus on content quality , and basic are same .

For me content that is interesting to my industry is what seems to bring in the most people through Google. If you sell a product or service I think that you should find some good websites that relate to you and see if they can do a story on you. A link from the front page of a well known site will defiantly bring in some visitors.

I agree. Google is after quality, and with each Panda update, they weed out the sites they judge as low-quality. Most web marketers focus on getting their pages to rank rather than giving value to readers. The latter is more important than the former in my opinion. If you are writing for your readers, taking care to make sure that your pages/posts are optimized, then your site gains wider and stronger readership. This is something that Google looks at. If you have plenty of traffic on your site and low bounce rate, Google is more likely to note your site as having relevance to readers, thus deserving of a good ranking.

That said, one needs to work on his website's content. Make sure it gives value to readers. Relevant backlinks also help so buying backlinks these days no longer work as well as before.
