It's not so much about SEO techniques, Google is getting smarter and smarter and now you have to actually give something valuable to your visitors to rank well.
Looking at your signature, you just won't be able to rank well for "latest news" because you can't have them as an individual.

Just build high quality links from high pr websites. I'm still practicing up until now, the web 2.0 blogs style. It's still working for me. You would want to find related articles to your site, and you can either write or spin(quality) those articles and publish it on many web 2.0 sites like blogger, wordpress, squidoo, etc while linking to your main site. You can blast those blogs with profile/comment links for faster indexing.

 

There is nothing new in SEO keep the link building process on avoid blackhat tactics and also check the velocity of backlinks.
