What is your site going to be about? Answer that question, and you'll then be able to identify your seed keywords (the main keywords for your site's pages), your related keywords (keywords that are related to your seed - or primary - keywords), and your "long-tail" keywords (keywords that are related to your related and primary keywords, but don't get a lot of people searching for them - or a lot of competition in the search engines either, thus making them very easy to dominate very quickly).

Ah, but you see, every site is different - every page is different. What's the best keyword for one could very well being the worst keyword for another. This recent article from SitePoint should explain what I'm saying far better than I'm prepared to at the moment:

Is this a serious question? What is the best keyword, with no further explanation... I think I read somewhere that "home" is one of the most linked to keywords anyway...

Home really isn't a keyword, unless you're in the real estate or construction industries. ;)

Simple question with difficult answer, we must do serious research to answer that. S/R ratio below 10 and KEI bigger than 400 in general will be good.
