The best keyword density in the text.

    Hi,

I've been thinking all the time what is the perfect keyword density for successful SEO. And still bothering about that. Recently we've made an experiment with keyword density.
We wrote 12 articles about marketing and adverstising, each text was divided on 3 blocks (they look like similar in word density), each block has some amount of keywords. At the end of experiment, when all texts were indexed by Google we got such results:

On 500 words in each texts, we used 14 (apprpoximately 3% keywords density) similar keywords. And put them into various combinations in each block. And the #1 position got the text with 7 keywords in top block, 0 in middle and 7 in lower one.

We are going to continue our experiment at another blog to get new results.

So I'm wondering if anyone here made such experiments? What results did you get? And if you really now what keywords density is perfect - please share!

Keyword density is simply taking a mathematical view of your page content. It is defined as the percentage of keywords or keyword phrases that appear in the total page content. To discover it, you perform (or use a tool that performs) a simple match problem:

Keywords ÷ Total Words = Keyword Density

So in an advertising blurb or article with 300 words of which 10 were keywords, the keyword density would be 3.3%. If you figure this yourself on a calculator, remember that an easy switch from a decimal to a percentage is to multiple the answer by 100.

I've already tested this! In spite of the reasons, the articles reached onto the top in few days, but later lost almost all the ranks. There was a drastic change in the ranks.
So, I did not test it again. It's been 1 year or so now.. However, I'm not using 1-2% depending on the size of articles, and all my clients are on #1 of Google ( of course, with some
    other tasks aswell)

Problem is, search engines are CONSTANTLY changing the way they do things. So looking for a 'magic' percentage at any particular point in time is basically... futile.

I don't think it's as simple as a standard percentage. Google will look at related words and what words usually aolear on a page with the target keywords in and make all sorts of decisions based of this. Seomoz have an interesting post here you may want to read. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/lda-and-googles-rankings-well-correlated

Keyword density tends to vary by search engine google right now seems to like 2% or there about so in a 500 word page about 5 times is good.

Also as to your test I find it very interesting. I have never tested it but i have used a very similar distribution in the past

I would place the keyword more prevelantly at the top of the page and maybe once in the middle and a few times at the top.

In my experience search engines tend to give more emphasis to the first words that they hit to determine what a page is about.

Which logically makes sense to me. If you were writing a 5 paragraph theme you would lay out the premise of the theme in the first paragraph.

Cool experiement I find it interesting that the response you got was to what i suspectted all along anyways.

Thanks guys for your replies! Speak in truth, I agree that this experiment doesn't show anything, for some objective results this experiment should be made several times on several websites and blogs which were created at the same time approximately.
And the sequence of keywords should be equal in each article on each website.
And only when Google will index all these pages you'll get some objective resluts, BUT I won't be surprised if you'll have different results for each website :)

But anyway, maybe there is a truth behind such experiments. After all only that specialist who makes experiments will succeed :)

According to my knowledge, the best keyword density is somewhere between 1%- 5%. Not more than that!

Don't target more keywords on your article and make keyword density is 3 to 4 %.
