The best FONT!

I was wondering for a long time... What are the best fonts to use for logo design or write the company name or slogan.

Times New Roman, Arial, Verdana etc. look too unprofessional. :(

I'm not talking about some crazy, fancy fonts and I realize that the choice of a font depends on the theme/topic of the website.

What I'm looking for is a simple yet professional looking font for a general use (to write "Bender's Blog" for instance...)

So, what fonts do you use?

I'd appreciate if you could post the name of the font or send me the font file directly.

I'll leave a green rep. to anybody who comes up with a helpful information.

    Thanks in advance!

A good standard font is Century Gothic I think.

Also for more fonts, try deviantart.com I think it was there I downloaded a huge pack of very good fonts.

common fonts (like you mentioned) don't have to look generic if they're accompanied by the right additional factors.

"serious" companies often have their own fonts developed as part of corporate branding. not cheap.

I suggest downloading a huge font pack, going through them all, and seeing what you like best-- what suits your style of site.

Thank you very much for your suggestions. However, I'm not looking for a huge pack of fonts, I just need 2-3 good ones.

Disgust, I think you might be right about the Big companies.

    Still looking, :)

sorry if we're not giving you what you want. I suggested the big pack idea because what we may think is the "best font" may not appeal to you nor be appropriate for your use; you know those factors much better than we do.

My favorite would have to be Arial, and to some extent Verdana. Don't really use anything else besides those two.

The most professional print based fonts so far and found everywhere in streets I've seen is helvetica (the whole fam). Although the rules of typography should still be applied. Every font has their own use. If you're an artist, a designer or aspiring to be one or any the two, I suggest you study typography. You'll learn how to use them properly and professionally.

For some reason many still don't know the difference between serif and sans serif and how to use them properly. I guess someone reading this will find out eventually.

But I guess you already know my favorite font.

I use Trebuchet MS alot, i find its a ill-used font so far and has alot of potential, especially for bare text use.

Century Gothic used to be in a similar position, but its being over used currently and is easily familar.

www.acidfonts.com is a good resource for many different and unique type fonts, don't however go for fonts that look "Cool" just ones that look professional and sleek.

Otherwise you could end up using a batman font inadvertantly and 95% of your audience will know even though you don't!
