    It's been a while since i logged on to DP and wanted to answer this post.

    I don't agree 100% here. While definitely you can obtain a good lifestyle and great weather here the autochthonous society is still really backward thinking. Though what everyone ends up doing is just sticking to their own or similar expat community and not really mingling with the locals.

    I guess a 100% ideal location is not possible, you would have to weigh out the pro's and con's. In the end yu should go to where you can handle/tolerate the cons.

    Singapore's quite nice, but quite expensive. The shopping is great, the people are nice, but the noise is annoying.

    Costa Rica is ... inferior to Panama in almost every way.

    South Africa is sliding into hell. In a few years it will be indistinguishable from it's neighbors.

    Mexico isn't looking so good... look at Panama instead.

    There are just too many countries on the Med to generalize like that. Avoid Greece, try Montenegro or Croatia.
