Isn't individual liberty in Vietnam heavily restricted by the communist government?

Human Rights Watch: Vietnam documents a litany of abuses.

The U.S. Department of State documents government murder of private citizens for conversion to Christianity in Vietnam: Country Reports on Human Rights Practices

The Vietnam Human Rights Network has more data -- but most of it is in Vietnamese.

I can't really see myself volunteering to be beaten to death and thrown into an alley for disagreeing with some ignorant communist.

"communist" again!!! I have heard this word so many times from many people who have never visited Vietnam!
"Human rights"! this is something coming from the American, not other people including our people.
Thank you for caring that for us but it is better to educate people more than blame on anyone, especially the government. They have tried their best and our people also work very hard to recover from the Wars.

I grew up for awhile in a predominantly Vietnamese neighborhood in Wichita, Kansas.

I have great love for the Vietnamese people, but no love for a government that imprisons and murders it's own citizens for their religious beliefs.

No one inside or outside Vietnam even knows how bad the situation really is, because reporters are sent to jail for publishing reports critical of the government.

Refugees are still fleeing from Vietnam. It's not exactly the kind of place a person would want to relocate to.

    Sorry. :)

Nah... we do really poorly with them, because we're too... well... manly!

On the other hand, American men do really well with Aussie girls, because we have much better manners than Australian blokes. I know quite a few Yanks who went down under to hunt Sheila's and then moved back to the U.S.

Thank you very much for your thought and I really appreciate your attention to Vietnam. I understand that there are many people who are interested in Vietnam especially the government. However, to understand totally, that person should live in Vietnam.

I doubt that you understand the situation while "no one inside or outside Vietnam knows how bad the situation really is". How do you know that? Maybe you get some information from reporters but why do you think that the reporters are right? and why other famous reporters are not imprisioned or murdered? Are Vietnamese people blind?

About religious belief, there are many religions in our country. The government allows them to live, to work with anyone in Vietnam and follow their religions. But the government does not allow some religious persons(I think fake religious who is under the appearance of religion to do his/her job) to give poor people some money, ask them to go to the office of government to strike while they know nothing what they are doing. Is the government wrong?

Ok, many things to say but why there is no strike in Vietnam, think about the USA, about September 11 event! Think about many people died because of guns in the USA. Where is the human right if they die?

Australian women are beautiful and there are more women than men.

An Australian man can be little better than an ape and he'll do well.

I've had to pay bribes twice today :D

I never registered my visa in time when I got into the country, and got stopped today by a cop in Red Square. My visa wasnt correct so basically I had to bribe him £40. Then I needed to go to a hotel and get them to stamp my visa saying I was staying there. I went to one but they refused as I wasnt actually staying there. Another quick £20 sorted that though lol. I took some cool pics of Red Square and stuff, i'll post a few of them here later tonight.

Well I never had a proper visa so that was always a risk. And I see no problem with the hotel guy, he's doing something in his workplace that he's not meant to be doing. I offered him 1000 roubles to do it anyway and he accepted, its a business transaction and both parties are happy ;)
