I'm Tunisian and i know many Americans that came to live here and they didn't came back !!!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunisia Tunisia meets all your needs with a average flight time of 6-8 hours * Have a good climate. Not too cold; not too hot. ---> climate here is between 5-30 Celsius during the year * Have a stable, but small, government. Not too fascist, not too anarchistic. No religious governments, please. ---> our SMALL gouvernment is too worried about the comfort of tourists and the strangers ( our main product is tourism ) * Not tax income made overseas. That's pretty important for web publishers. ----> you won't have any taxes as a stranger !!! * Have good access to quality medical care. That's pretty important for old web publishers. ----->People come from EUROPE to see tunisian doctors 'cause they are much cheaper with a comparable quality * Have good access to shopping. That's pretty important for married web publishers. -----> we have A LOT OF MALLS ANYWHERE and EVERYWHERE We are a shopping NATION * Have reasonable real estate prices. Some very shabby countries have outrageous prices for reasonable decent houses. ----->Here you can have a nice big villa with a pool @ $80K and with a view on the sea ----->4 room flats $30k * Have reasonable prices for goods. Basic goods are very expensive in some countries due to transportation costs, and very expensive in other countries due to crippling tarifs. ----> almost all the goods are produced locally and they are really cheap ( ONE BREAD $0.1 !!!!! ) 1L milk $0.5 .... 1KG beef meat $7 You're welcome in tunisia Here is an article in FORBES about TUNISIA Tunisia: Courtesy of the Residence The Residence--Tunis With its wide, warm beaches and the waves of the Mediterranean gently lapping the shore, the beaches of northern Africa are like nowhere else in the world. With its exotic mixture of Spanish and Moorish architecture, The Residence is a dramatic resort offering all the amenities and refinements of a modern luxury hotel. Located on the Côtes de Carthage, the site of the ancient city from which Hannibal launched his attack on Rome, this area of Tunisia is famous for its light, natural beauty as well as for its proximity to many local historical points of interest.
Panama is looking the best right now. I'd like to visit Andorra and the Dominican Republic. We'll probably visit the Philippines soon. I'll be writing all of that up for Expat Intelligence.
Panama and Costa Rica are too pricey. Tegucigapla is the capital of the original banana republic and a great place to sit back. You can rent an apartment for $300 a month and you are two hours flight from Houston or Miami. A maid will run $40 a week. Here is a good site for property http://www.ngabrie.com/ Tegucigapla is 3000-ft making its climate ideal. Restaurants and nightlife are cheap. Tegucigalpa and the English speaking Roatan tend to be the most expensive in terms of real estate. The caribbean (costa norte) will run 50% less. Popular cities are San Pedro Sula, La Ceiba, Tela, and Trujillo.
True,English language has a lot to do with the prices. That`s why I do well speaking spanish and English, makes a big difference.
Spanish is a must. Barcelona is a great place but the euro will take the fun out real fast. Barcelona has the nearby costa brava beaches and there is also some good cava, red & white wine, liquor and cold beer flowing. A liter of wine cost 60 ptas. in a bodega. It was like that book "the sun also rises" Before the 1992 Olympics a beer in a tapa bar was 60 pesetas and a cheap meal in a bar with a bottle of wine was $5. In smaller cities like Girona, a cold beer could be had for 40 ptas. The best part of Girona is the ratafia (green walnut liqueurs) The exchange rate was 120 ptas per dollar and Barcelona was certainly affordable. Spain also has some of the best food in the world and cuina catalana is among the best.
Not sure on the economics, but I really enjoyed Scotland.. The climate, the history, and the people made my time there extremely enjoyable.. The beer was not bad either!
LOL I live in Scotland. I wouldnt recommend it at all. 40% tax, cold in winter, a government that wants to know what you ate for breakfast. I'm leaving Scotland, if anyone wants my place here they're welcome to it
Its okay living here, its the living costs combined with 40% tax on earnings over $70k thats the killer. I'm reading up on Tunisia now, I could buy an absolute palace for the price of a 1 bedroom flat in a decent area here, with zero tax on foreign income, certainly looks good!
Sounds like the US... If I look at everything I pay taxes on, my rate is around 70% in taxes.. SUCKS!!! Sounds nice.
