I live in a 3 storey house, with a beautiful view, in a nice small city of Portugal, and I love it. But surely it isn't the best country in the world. It's just mine.
People are nice, crime rate is low, the food is good, and it's peaceful.
The cost of life is a bit high for the average wage.
Taxes are also a bit high. My father pays almost 40%

I hate to generalize but a good portion of the West Indians hate white people in the US Virgin Islands and let you know about it. Not really a big deal---but at times it can be bothersome. All the people who have immigrated there from "down island" are extremely nice...Just something about the US Flag in the Caribbean that brings out the worst in people. A sense of entitlement maybe? The British Virgin Islands are 8 miles away and the people are typically much nicer.

And a lot of the Eastern European countries have already adopted flat taxes.

Plus, that high economic growth is accompanied by (in some cases) a still low cost of living.

You could make a fortune in real estate alone.

That is very true, in some of those countries minimum wage is still only around $300 month:cool: and the economy is growing around %5 annually.

In EE, Lithuania is a nice, not too cold or too warm and probably the most free democratic country in EE. Has the same crime rate as US, which is considered high compared to EU, but low or normal compared to Russia and other form Soviet republics in EE. They have also adopted the flat tax system.

For me, you could almost rank countries by adding up the number of words in their criminal and civil statutes. The countries with the last number of words would be at the top of my list.

In many parts it actually is. Bagdad however, is a different story. But the same could be said of some parts of Denver in the US;)

In 430 B.C. Pericles said "Just because you do not take an interest in politics doesn't mean politics won't take an interest in you."

Not so much has changed since then.
