The best anti-virus software?

    Hi guys,
I need to have an anti-virus software which is very effective. Currently, I use Symantec and it's been okay. But I just want to know if there is anything better than that. Also, I've heard that some anti-virus apps slow down your system considerably. Is it true? Could someone shed some light on this issue? Thanks.

I used to use Symantec - and got a couple of real nasties... changed over to Zonealarm and it catches everything. I love it now - is very cool :)

I am using AVG free edition and Zone Alarm both without having any problem.

I think Norton slow down your system as i heard.

    DON.

If you don't want to spend any money then Avast! and AVG are very good ones that don't use up much system resources.

I have tried zonealarm, no it does not slow down the system and is quite good. But I use it mainly for firewall, have not tried any anti virus programs from them.

Kaspersky, Nod32 or bit defender. Nod32 has easiest interface and kaspersky is my personal favorite.

I would use whatever takes the least amount of system space, ram, CPU etc. Antivirus in my eyes is a waste of time if you are behind a router. Unless of coarse you are downloading p0rn and what not. I run the online scan at
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ once a month or so.

Would rather do that then keep something running in the background taking away precious CPU and memory from me :)
