I don't think having more links via bookmarks will do any harm to a site.
    Is it? :D

    Kathy,

If you have more than 20% of the total links going to your website from Social Bookmarks then you are at risk of getting sandboxed by Google. This is not always the case, but I can assure you that it does happen quite often. Since search engines are getting smarter and smarter, I think they take this on a case by case basis...but by no means should you offset this ratio for a "new site".

    Hi,

I very much agree with this post and this is my experience. I do not bother with social bookmarking but go for high pr links, not neccsarally relevant, articles and video. Hub pages and squidoo are up there too but google will downgrade these at some point which will not happen with the articles or the high pr sites so I focus on those for the longer term,

This is really great, though I find most of those .edu blogs are nofollow?

Looking forward to the Squidoo tutorial also - I'd given up on it!

It is well known common knowledge that .edu blog links hold no more weight than any other link. In fact, the entire post is full of misinformation and common plop folks fall for on the web. I will point by point resolve this when roll out of bed in the morning.

This is a run guys. Some really great info here and I just learned a heap of good stuff. Thanks. I know this stuff works if it is used. It is a day by day effort and keeping at it to make things come together. Personally, I lose focus and it take a bit to get back on track and suspect there are a lot more just like me.

Setting some goals to do every day and then doing it will cause a lot more success than dreaming about the deal at the end of the rainbow.

Something interesting that I found is that if you create many articles and then link them, just like link wheels but without the hubs just directly link the articles then you can bookmark or build a link on one article and all will get indexed. If done correctly you can increase serp's very well. Articles must be structures to keyword trying to rank in title, body:start, middle and end with your link in it.

Make no mistake about it. There is nothing magical about the .edu extension itself.

What is different about edu sites is that they are more often linked to and less often linked out than other blog sites. Therefore they are more authoritative.

I have an entire write-up on Harvard edu pointing to one of my sites. Not a comment but a dedicated page. This one link alone holds immeasurable value not only with search engine authority but when someone reads that article on Harvard's edu site it increases the "trust" factor when they clickthrough to my site. The CTR is amazing.

I don't spam edu sites with generic comments, I build relationships with universities through contacts I already know, contacting faculty and internships to work at my company. This ensures that a positive experience with an intern will most likely get blogged about.

    That's truly advanced SEO.
