Yes, you need to go to college then university to obtain a degree in forum building

ANY forum, no matter what it is, what it is about takes time to build.

Rome wasn't build in a day.

Overall you just need to learn how to draw people into actually participating, if you can do that, a forum will bloom.

In my opinion being a forum user; First thing that I'll check is the number of current active users. Then the total number of registered users. Then the number of threads. Then how active the forum is by looking at newest topic posted.

I guess most of us will do the same.

So think of a way how to make all those happen. You will then come to a situation of a 'chicken & egg' issue. Meaning, should you build more content in your forum (which ever ways) first, or promote to as many people. How can you build content without having people to participate and build content for you. On the other hand, how effective will it be for people to come and join when you don't have many content to offer.

To me personally, it's all about social psychology. People like to socialize. So make your forum as a place to be. And that is not hard to do as there are lots of tools/services out there that could help you to do so.

Alternatively, if you're cash rich, just pay people to participate. I've seen lots of forum that have successfully achieved by doing so. DP for instance.. indirectly ;)

    cheers,
