For some time now, I've been on this site - http://www.brickcity.net and it's a forum pretty much similar to DP. It's powered by some other kind of forum script, I don't know which one but a certain aspect of the ban system they've got on there really appeals to me.

Let me explain: whenever a user is banned, his most recent post (usually the cause of the ban) is marked with this huge box that looks kinda like a quote. This box tells people why exactly he was banned. Thus, other members are warned against whatever it is that he did wrong.

This suggestion may be hard to implement because it may take a lot of tweaking the scripts and all but if it's done, I'm sure we could all benefit from it.

I've only been around for a short while here on DP and I'm almost sure we don't have that sort of a system here. If we already do or if this has been suggested before, then I'm sorry about the redundancy.

    Thanks

Most members are banned from accumulating ten infraction points for a variety of reasons. Say last point accumulated is for starting thread in wrong category. This could well be only time member ever received an infraction for that reason. I fail to see how that info would be useful.

For me the warning box on the post is just airing dirty laundry. The other thing many people should already have an idea of why one is banned. There is a list of rules and guidelines. And if one goes through the banned persons posts and threads, than one may get a general idea of why they were banned.

So if one reviews the rules and guidelines it wouldnt be that hard to remember what is a no no. In addition if you go to the suggestions and feedback area and read the majority of posts(locked or otherwise). You will see a public display of why some users were banned without having to use the box quote of why they were banned.

Actually he meant to say about warning others members of the doings of Banned Member. But in DP we get to know that easily.

Still I'd like a small notice board in Banned Member's profile about when he will be back and a vague reason of his/her getting banned.

Well Ipstong dont be stupid .... Do you think you ever read the Rules and Guidelines before signed up on DP or even completely when you signed up. What the OP here suggesting is about a box which tells you why he or she was banned. Sometimes a user who provides good services on DP is banned for some thread in Politics or other forum. Now if there is a box telling why he or she was banned then that will give a relief to users usign his services. A large number of times when a user is banned for a reason other than services .. alot of chargebacks are hit on his paypal ( payment processor account). ... So normally a banned users = a Scammer ... that's what people think about him or her.

Its a good idea ... I think there should be something in their profiles (Banned Members) to let others know what he or she was banned for.

Plus it invites transparency of the system .. ;)

Some people who are banned feel that it is personal and don't want everyone to know. If other users don't understand the infraction/banning system, it's their problem. As for others learning a lesson and not wanting to make the same mistake, they should just abide by the forum rules.

Thanks for the suggestion but we don't share reasons why members were banned. If you want that info, you'll have to ask the person who was banned.
