What I'd love is something between the two. I'm willing to watch a few short (e.g. <10 second) commercials to see clips of quality shows online (e.g. The Office), but I also want to see the quirky stuff uploaded by everyday folks. I don't car who delivers such a product, I'd use it. The problem with the NBC/NewsCorp rival is that it will probably be chock full of ads, may not be embedable, and will likely be slow. NBC owned sites contact me on a weekly basis to link to their video sites now, but I can't embed the videos and they're typically horribly slow. If the new "rival" is the same, it's doomed from the start. Just my $.02, Anita

I've seen attempts to give birth to Google YouTube. Well, I personally believe those are helpless, and their only hope is to follow YouTube's story, meaning grow big to become a reliable competition to Google (which is rather difficult nowadays) and then let Google see it as a thread to their own business and take you over for a good price. Otherwise you can't really fight with a giant, you simply can't..
Ya. Youtube dominates too much of the video clip market and has such a reputation. It's too hard to compete unless you can come up with a very unique concept.
I would love to see who they are before I can guess what kind of rival they are to Google. Their whois is hidden, and the domain although registered back in 1995, I guess its owners have changed in time. A nice strategy of hiding ads on their pages, cause I can't find any. And they don't seem to be charging for memberships. How long have they been around?
It looks that liveVideo.com has been around since 95. They should've made by now. 497 on alexa and few backlinks to it. Maybe that's why. Here's what I don't understand. How come some sites like youtube just takes off in one year and other old sites don't make it quite as well.
I checked their alexa again. I bet you someone just bought it in late 2006 from an old domain. Then that's pretty good. http://info.alexa.com/data/details/...0_L1&amzn_id=alexa65-tb-20&url=livevideo.com/
Sooner or later - youtube will be less popular. There is a growing number of similar services. One of the keys of youtube success is that they allow people to break copyrights and don't bother to much with that (tha'ts why they could collect so many interesting content).
Let's not forget who owns YouTube. And I bet they will own your business if you stay on their way one day.
Not true. If you put any copywrite videos on there site then they will delete them as soon as they see them. There are hundreds of videos being uploaded all the time so it is hard for them to go through them all and delete them. Youtube is bad quality and im not sure why anyone even uses them.
I still think YouTube will be standing where they are. They are still popular. Just my own opinion : Youtube dot com - Popular around the world since it was released. Metacafe dot com - Portion of the world and climbing up Youku dot com - Asia World, China market. ..and many more. Most of it are famous and have very similar type of service. But it is also depends on which area that most visitor visit. Regards, David Cheong.
