The Amount of Spam in Google is Stupid

I am getting tired of running search queries and getting spam sites coming up top. I just ran a query and within the top 100 results were 36 spam sites. Mainly consisting of .gov and .cn sites although .edu seems popular for spam as well. How is it possible that over 1/3 of all sites searched in my query were spam?

for the same key word try other search engines and see if you get relavent results. And if you find one that is giving better results, you can pretty much short Google stock.

If you don't see better results with other SE's then you may buy Google stock.

That is a simple as that.

Spam is everywhere and it takes lot of time to weed out spam..

The one who could control most will stay as a leader.

Yeah, for non-commercial reasons, ie you don't want to buy something!, it's as good as useless now.

I use del.icio.us for a lot of research

You know how you can have something, and it works pretty good, but then you keep screwing around with it, trying to improve it, trying to make it work 100% perfectly, and before long it's completely messed up and you can't get it back to the way it was before?

    Yeah....

Let me guess, if you wanted to actually find and order the canned meat Spam online, you wouldn't be able to find it because of all the spam, right? :D

Actually, I just searched for "Spam" on Google and the food came up in first place. Amazing, isn't it !!

I think he's right. There is alot of Spam sites now. More then ever.
I'm talking about MFA sites in particular..

A good tip I can say..is if you looking to buy something. A real site that is selling products won't put ads on it, also a "bonified" medical site will not put ads on it either.

Wow that is the best analogy I have seen yet. I think this may very well be true..to much change confuses things and when you got as many minds working on things as Google has i can see how this could very well happen. I believ the results were much better a couple of years ago then they are now.

I Guest Google Rocks and if it's dosn't deserve to rank depending on their alogarithm it wont, so they did a good search engine optimization for their spam website as you are saying with out even sharing the keywords and they deserve it.

Try any other search engine out there and if you can't get it on google then you wont :)

Hmmm...interesting. I guess that signals towards the potential power of user-powered search (the upcoming wikisearch).

del.icio.us is also susceptible to spam. Anywhere that backlinks can be gained and traffic redirected is a target for spam.

I've suggested this before, and got kicked around for it, but if spam sites are beating your sites, or dominating your search results, try to figure out how they are doing it. Because you can report sites until you are blue in the face, but the idea is to strengthen your sites to be as spam proof as possible in the SERPs. Use it as a learning experience.
