i have a plan for adsense, but my estimates are it will take 1-2 years to make good money. my biggest problem is i dont really believe adsense will be here in 2 years, and i end up wasting all my time.

my initial estimate was 6months but i am 1 month into it and my first site (of many in the future) is only listed in msn and making 30cents/day (my niche is a summertime sport-bass fishing). i assumed in 1 month i would be ranking in google and yahoo.. boy was i wrong, i havent been a webmaster since 2002. a lot has changed in this short period of time. we never delt with sandboxes in the 1990s! the tricks i used to use are near useless now. but with problems come oppurtunity.

Assuming i am ranking in 3 months i should make good money in 1 year. if it takes 6 months itll be 2 years. if im still not ranking after 6 months I LOSE.

do i beleve it will be easy. No.

do i beleive it will be hard. Not Extremely.

but it WILL take patience, time, many hours for no initial return, and all those hours are at the rusk that i may not make ANY money.

the thing that keeps me going is that I enjoy it. its kind of like an after-work hobby. I am not married so instead of going to the bar after work each night, i go home and spend an hour writing an article, or tending to my website.

Though my "adsense" experience is pretty much nilch so far other than what i have read and what i have learned, my tip to newbies is..

Dont go into this strictly for the money, you will quickly become frustrated and end up neglecting the site to the point it will never make money. The best way is to Look at it as a hobby. and money may or may not come

this is a nice thread i realy enjoyed reading all your experiences and future plans and i must say they just fuel me more to achive my future goal. I whant to be financialy independent in 2007 and earn my living online till i'm old and in a wheelchair :). I spend most of my time reading forums and getting contacts and talk to people who already make 4 figures or more online. I'm launching my first real projects soon and i hope all my research will pay of, otherwise i will study and learn harder so they will pay off eventualy.

Hope everyone here achieves his goal. all the best to all.

(for the record: i made 9.87 in my first ever adsense month :s, but it's not 2007 yet :) )

I agree thats what I do, but I find it quite important to know how to program and more and more on by yourself...even if you higher someone else to do it like me...you can give the busy work to programmers over seas while you do the work that you don't trust them with...

But basically it is a good way to get ideas and know what is on the cutting edge ...bought a book on Amazon today to learn AJAX, cause it seems to be the next wave ;) but I will probably just higher someone else to code for me...:D

my experience with hiring web programmers was quiet terrible. It seems like the do "just enough" so I end up always polishing up the scripts on my own. So I pretty much gave up on hiring people to do work for me , unless it is a big project and I am completely clueless as to how to approach it. Also in my experience most programmers who mastered the php are terrible in SEO and the other way around :)

hard work and persistance and research eventually = money
hence the reason everyone posts here to share and learn and put this research to work!

yeah if I had to start from scratch knowing what i know now I could do it in 2 instead of 10 months to get to where I am now.

Overall pretty happy with AdSense experience though

I Make around $80 a day now.. but I am kind of spinning wheels with this smart pricing stuff... my page views went up 15K and clicks by about 400 in the past month but still stuck on magic $80 with record of $90... currently starting to experiment with other publishers as well

Zibser: Good luck with the websites and the retirement plan. Adsense would probably be around for a while imo. In any case, people will always need to advertise and if Adsense goes down, it will be replaced by some other company or product or service that you will be able to earn from.

thats kinda what i thought too.

I have a feeeling the next Windows will have a built in ad-blocker that defaults to ON and is included on "windows update" to adjust to Googles code changes.. it will be a see-saw battle for google and msn if this pans out.. so hopefully those MSN words or whatever they call them will make good money like adsense does now!

It's true, in general, that it takes money to make money -- but not necessarily very much money. I started with a $19.95 a month email account 10 years ago (it was expensive back then) that came with a "free" web site. Using that "free" web site, I began selling a report (printed, sent via mail) for $5.95. I made a profit the first month and have been making a profit every month since then.

Of course, my site(s) and monitization methods have changed, but the point is that it doesn't take money to get started.

It's amazing the number of people who have free web sites with their ISP who waste it and never use it for anything other than displaying pictures of their dog. Then there's free blogging software, and free PHP scripts, and free web templates, and free graphics, and free ....

yes im fighting a battle with smartpricing as well

it seems whenever i have a really good day (usually the launch of a new site)
the site very quickly (3-4) days gets smart priced :(

    damn you google!

i started with bidvertiser (again, they screwed me out of it before), the CTR sucks alot ($21 for 278,483 impressions, im not sure if its against their TOS
    to disclose #clicks)

i just hope they are not a scam and do pay up (heard alot of bad things about them), i need money into my paypal for tax reasons and to pay for servers ;)

bidvertiser's CPC is great, just nobody clicks on their irrelevant ads. CTR like you said is very poor. BidVertiser is based in Israel, so I do not even think you have to pay taxes on the income. Also, I earn more getting .03 cpc with adsense than .50 with bv.

If we were getting paid as much now per click as we were same time last year I would be easily making over 200 per day. until then I will enjoy my $80 =]

That nailed it on the head, completely agree on that one

taxman can access my bank account, so they can see adsense lodgements, not paypal tho ;)

I see lots of talk here about hard work and discipline and slogging ...
I'm earning $xx range in adsense for now but what i noticed about adsense after having them for some time is that the earnings are usually quite consistent, especially for sites that have been around for some time. And that's assuming there's no slogging, hard work, etc etc...

Recently I launched a new project and focused of driving traffic to it and immediately i see an increase in adsense earnings. Ave. CPC went down but total no. of clicks went up. All in all, earnings went up. And that's BEFORE Google start including the new pages in the index.

I think it has a little more to do with strategy than just hard work. And I do sincerely wish all those newbies out there the best of luck! My point is, do work hard but do think hard as well!

I disagree, this may not be popular but it is easy.

Once you build your first few it is as easy as pie. The steps are the same, they dont change.

Sure dont go in expecting to make thousands per month right away. But it doesnt take a scientist to do it. Just hard work and dedication.

I couldn't agree with you more, first 3-4 months are hell, because it is a lot of hard work without any payout.. but once you get couple established sites it is easy very easy to keep expanding, now only a year into it I can build a new site and have it get >500 uniques / day in under a month

It definetely helps to know what you are doing though, putting in hard work without knowing what to do will be frustrating, this forum is great help for all the newbies
