There's a lot of logos using the Q as a main symbol, just as there are every letter of the alphabet. I'm pretty sure that the one on here is adequately different to the one it borrows from. All that is similar is that there is no hang-down on either of em.
I think it's very positive that as designers, we are on the lookout for copyright infringement (sp? that word doesn't look right) Personally, I address them with the powers that be instead of on the public forum, but, to each their own. While I can see that his entry has the "feel" of the Quality First logo, they have their own attributes and stand clearly on their own....not that I need to speak for STD.
Well I am unaware of any logo looking similar to mine? It IS a letter.. heh. If you can find the logo you seem to have seen before please let me know and I will remove my entry.
Hmph.. well I dont know -- that is just a letter in the font used.. CH.. if you feel this is too similar let me know and I will scrap it
Thanks to popstalin for pointing out what he did, I appreciate you looking out for me - yet I am confident they are sufficiently different to as not to raise anything copyright problems. So Saves Th3 Day is the winner. Thanks to all that took part. Saves Th3 Day I'm PM'ing you now.
Thanks for choosing my entry and great job everyone And I can assure you the similarity was not intentional.
What a shame. Whether it was done intentional or not, it's too similiar and last time I checked infringement laws don't care about anyones intentions. Why others are defending a look alike is beyond me. What's going on here? Are some hoping to be able to do the same thing and get away with it? So, by defending whomever, you feel the favor will be returned by another? Just trying to make sense of it . You say that Quality's logo is just a font used...I'm not understanding the point. How does one know what was used to create any one logo unless they are the designer themselves. We all know that there are several ways to create any one design; that's the beauty of art. Moreover, I have a font that has the exact letter Q you used in your logo (which I thought you used for your logo), it doesn't matter if it was a custom made font; font is font. Yes, the "Q" in here looks meatier, but c'mon it's the same with the exception of the rectangle and when it stands alone it's cased in a circle. However, if you use this logo as a stand alone some will just think QualityFirst just redesigned their logo, hence, one customer lost, then another, and another. But if you don't use it alone rather with your company name you cancel out the risk of confusion or disassociation. Hey, this sort of thing happens all the time when logos are alike. Think about it, what logo is like McDonald's famous "M"? How many people do you think confuse the "M" with another company/businesses letter "M" logo? I'll tell you no one in their right mind. You might as well as had a logo with a magnifying glass that you are sick of seeing. Is it worth losing customers over because you will that's inevitable based on logo association. Some people don't like playing guessing games when they are trying to remember and they'll be thinking, "it's the company with the fancy "Q". I'll know it when I see it." Yes, I'm sure you will, only to come across another company with the similiar "Q". Mind you they can only remember the letter q and what the company is about. So, what happens next? They'll see that it's not the company they were looking for, some will continue searching and others will go to your competitors giving them business. Don't get me wrong, when I saw the design I thought, "a definite winner in my eyes." I'm appalled and felt the need to comment.
Quality First isn't a business or company.. that site is just filled with logo samples, which is why there is a downloadable .ai file on the site..
