Pitfall #1: Selecting the wrong products to promote

This is one of the most common mistakes beginning affiliate marketers make. Instead of going with gut instinct on whether a product is popular, it is important to research the demand for it. Is it already selling? What are people buying in the marketplace? Does the salesletter look professional? What kind of customer support is provided? All these questions are important to answer before you proceed with promoting the product.

Pitfall #2: Looking for the immediate sale

Most affiliate marketers are only concerned with getting the sale as quickly as possible. This is understandable. However, it is the back-end that will further increase your profits or mean the difference between a losing a campaign or a winning one. Hence, you need to build a customer list of your own to follow-up with your prospects. Yes, you are not the vendor, but you will need to do the marketing in order to sell more products.

Pitfall #3: Jumping from one program to another

Instead of promoting one program at a time and waiting to see if it succeeds, promote a few of them! Have an ‘affiliate product portfolio’. This will diversify your efforts. After your promote a few products, you can see which ones are earning a profit for you and drive on in your promotional efforts.

Well, you are right I think. I would also add something to your post:

Number 1:it is known that brand sells better. Don't try to sell things that nobody knows. Sell a product that is already known, don't struggle. If you want to struggle and get payed on a long term build your own products. If you want to be an affiliate, sell something that really sell :)

Number 2:Well, here it is indeed a matter of patience. I had my first sale with IXWebHosting after a long time, I almost said I can not do it. After a long while,I managed to do it, I am happy with it. Now I know how many visitors I need for a sale, every site and affiliate has such a number, it depends from site to site. Anyway you can not tell it until you have a steady selling flow, to make an average.

Number 3: Well, at least with the same site you can not just jump from one to an other since you build a traffic with a niche specific and a reputation for your website. People would expect you to offer them the same thing, not to find something else each time they come.
