    In 1980, USA boycotted the Soviet Union Olympic games;
    In 1984, the Soviet Union boycotted the USA Olympic Games;
    In 2008,the western country would like to protest or boycott the Beijing Olympic games;

    The next question is:
    How many people will protest or boycott the 2012 London Olympic Games or Torch Relay?

    Because of crumpets.

    Count me in on the protests, I for one will not stand for the worldwide distribution of crumpets any longer!

    C'mon, we all know the real issue looming - the price of a pint of ale.

    Unless Britain moves to contain this travesty of justice against humanity, I will be staying home and drinking homebrew.

    Well, I'll be drinking homebrew anyway.

    Sorry...ahem, miss my brewing life at the moment...back to seriousness, with apologies to all. OP, agree with cientificoloco, what would be the basis?

    Western countries aren't boycotting the Olympics though? There were protests at the torch relay, but a few thousand protesters doesn't represent an entire country.

    I hope we get rid of the torch relay for the 2012 games, it's pointless.

    You may be confused with Toronto losing the 2008 bid to Beijing.

    I don't think that it's pointless and it raises the anticipation of the games!

    It's quite recent, was introduced by Hitler to be used as a propaganda tool. It's never raised my anticipation, plus, in this day and age it would set a bad example to fly a group of people all around the world with the environmental issues as they are.

    I knew that, but I think that the environment would be one of the least factors that would stop an event like that. There are better ways to save the environment.
    The Olympic torch might not raise your anticipation but the ones of thousands of other fans, there were protesters but also fans surrounding the relay.

    In 2012 the Middle East will boycott the Olympic games because the Olympic logo looks like ZION:p
