The 1and1 Web Hosting Company = Thieves!

Before I selected 1and1.com as my choice for hosting for one of my sites back in December of 2007, I read some reviews. Mostly negative. But I tried them anyway. So far it's been good. They charged me for 6 months worth of hosting in December, just like I selected. Which was $23 and something cents.

Now, 6 months later (this past month) it's time for another payment. They took my site offline because they couldnt bill my original credit card. Which is fine as it was my mistake. So I select paypal as my new payment method and they put my site back up. Now tonight I see that they charged $43! When it was supposed to be only $23 again for another 6 months hosting. Looks like all the reviews turned out to be true after all.

I'm calling them after 9am eastern time to give them a piece of my mind.

    Fuckers!

Good luck with that. I was with them and it was a complete nightmare. My advice to you is to switch hosts now and demand a full refund

Well I just called 1and1 and talked to a nice lady and she says that there was a late charge of $18. The payment was late and was my fault. But I feel that the downtime your site gets due to non-payment is enough punishment. No need for a late fee tacked on!

Anyway, she said she would take care of it and have the charge taken off. So I'll wait and see if that happens :)

I wouldn't choose 1and1, they are a bad company, a lot of problems have been made with 1and1.

Name and shame them over at WHT (WebHostingTalk.com).

It seems like they are not professional.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I will stay away from 1and1.

I've been using 1and1 over a year now and no problems so far.
I chose them due to their low prices.
It's a pain to figure out how to stop a domain from auto-renewal, but once you learn how, it's no big deal.

I am currently in the process of transferring all my domains from other registrars to 1and1.
That seems to be going smoothly also.
