LOL. The designs are indeed too old school.
You know those scrolling marquees kind..
    flashy graphics... animated gif's.
myspace is just making the trend worst!
most of the ppl there think its so cool when they have moving
objects in their myspace. and they can start calling themselves
webdesigners. sorry.. just had to rant about that.

Hopefully they realise its time for a re-design when they see you in their referers.

Lingscars.com actually makes quite a bit of money. The design may be terrible, but it excels where it matters.

    Maybe. I hope they don't get offended.

Some of them actually hurt my eyes when I was taking the screenshots.

It will be interesting to see where web design trends go after all the kids making myspace pages become either web designers or CEO's.

They were considered good at one time. Its much like the video games from the early 90's. The graphics were so simple but the playabilty was often fantastic.

With some of them I don't have a problem with the design so much as the strange features such as the Earthquake button on http://www.kahuna.com that just makes you wonder what the designers were thinking.

I am all for sites that sacrifice fancy design to be usable but these sites all sacrificed any trace of usability as well. :)

Did you see Lings Cars was on Dragon's Den - she makes a shed load of affiliate money from the site by the sound of it. Looks like a bag of sick though, but fair play - there's the school of thought that says ugly websites inspire confidence and get great sales.

I saw Ling on Dragons Den and totally agree that her site is unique and should stay that way. With a few basic tweaks she would double whatever income she has, I'm convinced of that.

i was afraid my site will be on it. phew, u haven't yet seen my 1st site. it can beat cemaboy hands down with all the javascript effects:
    random page transition
    random midi music in background
    falling snow
    animated cursor
    marquee status and title
    flashy background
and some more i can't rmb. that was 6 yrs ago, phew. the page took a minute to load, and there aren't any pics. u can guess where all the loading time goes to ;)

lingscars.com -- you've got to take your hat off to ling, she has a awful site in a very difficult business (contract hire, pcp, car leasing is a very tricky business in the UK) but she seems to pull it off by creating a unique niche in the market all of her own. I wonder how long she can keep it up?
