The $1,000 Mogul: Can $1,000 Build A Blog Network?
If you are innovative enough to do something similar to what Dave Ward has done, what kinds of advertising are you putting on your pages right out of the gate, and how are you spending that thousand bucks?

I would complain that you didn't link directly to the article, but then again, the article itself is essentially a non-sequitur.

Did you have some kind of a point? If so it isn't clear from what you wrote here or there.

    Hi there

Don't pick on the guy...hes on a free blog host....and want's to know where to spend the $1,000.00

thats an issue in and of itself..... if he had $1.000.00 he would get off blogger and build content for himself and not Gooogle..

Considering you want to run a blog network, don't you think you should get a real hosting account??

If you pay for a year you'll have $900.00 or so left.

Of course I could be sane or somezing....

Hmm looking at the blog I don't see an article about $1,000.00

And looking at those ads there...I would be surprised if one of the ads is not violating the terms of service of the other...

    Or both for that matter

Now I would have to ask if that is the case, is showing the website off in a popular public forum such a smart idea ??

Wow...the crowd can get kinda rough here sometimes.
I've got plenty of hosting and a wide variety of websites, but like to diversify in the event one or another goes down.
(Matter of fact, I offer free blog space on one of my accounts)
    As I said- just diversifying.
The Blogger effort is rather new, and thought I'd just give it a shot.
Maybe WordPress would be a better choice in that regard?
Oh- about the ads on my blog- they are Yahoo! and Chitika (set as non-contextual). Last I checked, this is still good.

    ANYWAY-
All I'm asking is that if you had a grand to spend, how would you spend it on your blog. The other question is what advertising mediums you would start with right out of the gate.
(Didn't I just ask that?)

I would spend it on a hot chick to massage me while I wrote blog entries.

If that is your question, it was not clear, and the "related" post on your blog didn't clarify it.

Yes, start with hosting, develop a revenue sharing plan for your partners. Get a few months of content in the can pre-launch, then Ad and PR blitz.

Would you rather I lie and say it's great?? I thought I gave some valid points.

Being on blogger does you little good except for tossing an outbound link once in a while.

Wordpress on its own hosted server would serve you better over time and is an free option as opposed to moving up to paid service such as MT or such.

From there I would toss a a few hundred in advertising and the rest for paying people in the network something as a sign of good faith.

I hire writers this way and once I have them for two articles I pay them for those two as well as two more in advance, which in a way obliges them to write two more articles at the agreed rate of pay.

Some times I don't get the other two articles..lifes a risk though no risk no gain,,,, but more often than not.. I do get the articles and they are well written and error free too so my productivity is not lowered by having to go back and edit....and the writers like the fact that I sent them money for work they haven't done... there by bolstering their own self worth and their trust....

Random acts of kindness bring great gifts later when not expected
    :)

    Hope this helps

I think you could do it on less than $1000, or $1000 may not be nearly enough. It really doesn't depend on the money only. Unless you're buying talent, of course. Some of the blog networks I've seen starting up recently are paying bloggers on a percentage of the total revenue created by their blog. When you do that, your startup costs can be close to nothing, just the hosting as Sem was pointing out. If you're going to pay your bloggers a salary, then the $1000 won't get you too far, if you want to buy talented writers (then again if you don't get talented writers you won't succeed anyway).

    Thanks Sem.
I think you've got me thinking to the point of making it a seperate topic on the best blog hosts.
Granted, the one I offer is in a specific niche that is on a server that can be shaky at times-hence the reason I'm trying to start pages in other places.

Perhaps if you were to clarify about this "Dave Ward" person (your blog post merely explains that he likes to drink with friends, no a lot to go on...), or link to an article on him, we could better help you figure out how to emulate him.

Actually, Mr. Tut- I did link to the full article on page one of this thread, and I now have the blog article edited to reflect it. An oversight the first time around.

    Sem- thanks much! :)
