TextPattern - How Does It Compare?

I'm finally moving my Blog away from the blogspot shit and am contemplating whether to start thinking about perhaps weighing up maybe considering, possibly, a move to TextPattern. :)

    I don't care it doesn't have Trackbacks.

Just wondering if any fellow DP webmasters use it and if so, how they think it compares to other platforms they used for Blogging and simple content management.

I'm also interested in security of these packages. So far I have yet to see any probing for TextPattern folders and files - for Blogger and WP I get dozens of probers every day, indicating they have something wrong with them.

Honestly, I don't know anything about TextPattern, but I will say this: I get a LOT of my traffic from trackbacks, and it's a REALLY easy way to get pagerank as well as good favor in your community.

I didn't care at all about them at first, but seeing how effective they are at generating interest from other people's more heavily trafficked blogs, as well as PR increase, I would never blog without trackbacks again.

Text pattern must be the only blogging CMS I haven’t tried yet. Is there any specific reason you have chosen TP?
If you don’t want to use WP you can always try b2, s9 drupal and joomla.

I use textpattern and I love it, how ever the best thing to do would be to try it out and see if it's for you. I would argue texpattern is more flexible than wordpress in some way's, but for a straight forward blogging CMS wordpress is superior.

It really is light and flexible and pretty spam proof, I don't miss trackbacks myself, it depends what kind of site your looking to build. They don't put out constant upgrades like some systems and when I have had to upgrade it was extremely simple.

I've heard all the other ones getting hacked, not able to handle a Digg etc. In my log files I see probers looking for WP etc. all day every day. According to many, WP code is a mess.

TP seems clean, I like the way it's run by a few people. It runs under a different, more free license as well. I haven't heard of any TP hacking issues.

I've also seen some great designs on TP whereas almost all WP and blogger blogs are instantly recognisable (I know that's not really the software's fault but I rarely want something that millions of other people also have).

Those are the main reasons but I have yet to give it a proper whirl.

Feral cat, can I see your blog?

    sure ...

    ispitonyourmovie.com

I also use it at kewlbue.com and 22ltd.com (not complete, but shows that textpattern is flexible)

I have had no issues with textpattern security and have not heard of anyone having any major problems. Hackers and Spammers will target Wordpress first because of its popularity for one thing.
