Textbook Publisher Requesting Graphics

    Hi All,

I have received an email from a publisher asking if they could use some of my Photoshop designed graphics for a textbook to be published later this year.

They have course not mentioned any legal rights or monies in their email (maybe hoping for me to hand them straight over without questions!).

Are textbooks treated any different to other publications (eg magazines etc) from a freelancers point of view?

Do I request more, less, or the same than a glossy publication? Do I 'volunteer' them as they are for educational purposes? Do I charge more as university textbooks are generally overpriced ;).

Also, do I push the normal copyright clauses, or do I become more liberal, or tougher?

This is a new one for me, so any feedback will be most appreciated.

    Regards,

    punter.

Charge them. they are going to be making money off the school districts. I'd charge them about the same as you would someone from a magazine wanting to use your images.
