TextAdMarket - CPC or CPM addition?

I need a bit of advice before moving forward with an idea. My ad network, TextAdMarket, is CPD "Cost Per Day" where you pay a flat rate for each day of advertising on a specific website. I've been around here for awhile, and quite a number of DP'ers have registered at TextAdMarket, so I thought I'd ask for your opinion.

    Here is my problem:
The CPD concept has been going very well, but, as a new network, many of the ad spaces are just being left empty. The top performing sites are being snatched up, but I just have mounds of low traffic sites that aren't selling. By themselves, they might not be worth anything, but together, they are serving up thousands of impressions a day. Sucks for the publishers because they aren't making revenue on those ad spots, and sucks for my server because of the amount of queries performed every second of the day.

    My Idea
I know my site is CPD, but I was thinking about creating an optional opt-in network for publishers where they could earn revenue through clicks or impressions while their ads are waiting to be sold.

Is this something I should consider? If so, would a network wide CPC or CPM plan work best?

As always, all your thoughts are considered and much appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Benjamin Schrum

well i don't like so much the concept of CPD :S, but it's different so it's a good thing, about the spaces empty, i think you should put some cpm or cpc ads from other companies (like you pay 75% to publishers and ake your 25%) when there are no advertisers to buy the space.
I think it's a good idea give me your feedback ;)
    Hope it helps you

Hey, good idea. You mean from adbrite or adsense, correct? Any idea on how I can implement that? (technically speaking)

Ya, this sounds like the way I need to go. I'll do some weekend research on integrating adsense into my network. If that isn't possible, I may create my own PPC/CPM ad network as part of TextAdMarket.

Why you are not partnering with CPM networks like valueclick or even adbrite so they handle all work and you only give them opportunity.

Valueclick, adbrite, adsense, anyone of them would be a great partner. I just need to run some cheapie ads so my publishers can earn some extra cash while they are waiting to have their CPD ad spaces sell. The only major issue I have, is how to set this up. Technically, how on earth do I take the ads from another network and put them on my network, and then somehow track finances and statistics.

I'd be interested if you had a lot of traffic. Otherwise, it would be easier and more financially sound to have my own PPC as a sub-section of textadmarket.

Adroll.com does something similar to what you are looking for, you put their ad tag on your space and set a threshold CPM, say for instance 1.00. If Adroll can book your traffic for greater than 1.00 per CPM they serve their ad, if not they run AdSense. Not sure about the tech behind it but your could probably roll your own equivalent functionality if you used an adserver such as OpenX.

Good news guys, I have a PPC system on the way. I'm doing it all in-house instead of outsourcing it to adsense or another PPC company. I've been coding all night, and hope to have this going after 2 or 3 days of testing. The infrastructure of TextAdMarket is so solid now, I was able to add on a whole PPC network in basically one night!!! I guess this isn't really "news", I'm just excited about offering PPC.

Thanks to everyone who prodded me about adding PPC onto the site. :)

Just a quick update, we have over 200 registered users, several hundred dollars in pre-paid ad credit has been bought, and I'm moving into a nice VPS server next week. Things are really starting to take off!

You won't need to do anything extra. I'll turn on PPC ads by default for the current users. If, for some reason, you don't want PPC ads being shown, you'll have the option of turning them off in your control panel. Also, keep in mind, this will be a whole new PPC ad network started from scratch, so it may take a few days for advertisers to catch on and start buying PPC ads. I'll do my best to advertise its existence and get the funds flowing.

Will the PPC ads be contextual or are they going to be purchased the way the PPD ads are...

Sort of contextual, and not like the PPD method. The PPC buyers will get to choose which category they want to advertise in. They can choose a specific category like "medical", "business", etc......or they can choose to advertise across the entire network. Which reminds me, I need to add some new categories to the list.
