    Hello,

am in a bit of a dilemma, i want to set an advertising network just for my websites,
    i have 2 solutions
    1) setup a contextual ad network which will display only text based ads and a small picture, kinda like facebook ads
    2) graphic based ads to display banners and flash

which one would be better? from what i have heard from people in the field that banners tend to sell more and its more attractive than text for users, so they told me to pic option (2) but other friends said that text are better cause its not distracting and you can express your offer better and clearer which takes me back to option (1) i've been going back and forth for a 3 weeks now and not sure which would be the best option.

please share your opinions and help me decide :)

    Thanks for your time

Text format ads are not forced upon visitors. However, being less obvious some people may not see them at all. But those who do see them, and read them are significantly more likely to click on them. This may be for a number of reasons, but the first is that they are more informative. Generally, someone who is reading text ads on a page is not going to be fully satisfied by what they read, and if they click ads they are most likely to read something which will further supplement whatever their intention is next. With an image ads however, it is far more of a gamble for the visitor.

those people who actually click text ads are most likely gonna be targeted ones. because these people who click text ads are interested and reading...

I agree. Text adds are very much targeted. If the person is NOT looking for that thing, product or service in particular, they simply aren't going to click. People are lazy and hate reading, but those that really need something or are really interested are going to do so. Obviously they are NOT the "in your face" type of ads so they are harder to see.

True there are a lot of banner ads, or actually it may just be that they are much more visible so you assume there are more. I think it is very relevant, but as I have said many times before, ALL types of marketing are pretty individualized and the results are subject to change and vary according to the person, site, product or service. There is NO "fit for all method", each works differently and the results are equally varying.

The main secret of better conversions is making the ads hard to distinguish from the main content of the site. Your text links and banner links should look like they are part of the content. You will get better conversion when you manage to do that.
