If I buy some text links at say a cooking site, and my site is a motorcycle site, will it help my search just as much as if I buy a text link on the same subject my site is?

    Thanks! :)

If you are looking for PR and the site has good PR it might help if you are looking for search engine placement or traffic, I doubt it will do much good.

    Alright, thanks. :)

Another thing, if I buy some text links, and no one clicks the link, does it still help my SE placement? Or do people have to click it to help more with the SE placement?

You just need the link for PR but if you want traffic they need to click through. For SE placement, you need good traffic, good content and related links.

You are normally better of if the content of the page where you got your link is related to your site.

Buying not relevant links is a risky thing. But nobody says it won't work. But always better is to have links from sites with similar topics area.

Google doesn't really look at "relevance", They look at authority. Google is just an algoritm, It doesn't really know what sites are about, But it can tell how authoritive a site is, And that's what counts.

Would it help your bike site to get a link from an authoritive cooking site? Yes it would.

Think about it like this. If you have a site about training dogs would it be better (in the eyes of google) to have a link from the bbc.com homepage or a link from a "related" dog training site that is 3 days old?

Links from related sites are good, But they are good for bringing targeted traffic, Not so much for improving serps or authority.

This is a wrong information based on his own guess.

"Authoritative" sites exist in ALL niches. Let me start with that.

This means even in an adlut niche, there are authoritative sites, ranking at the top.

If you are saying relevancy is irrelevant to SEO, adult authoritative sites' backlinks count, right?

Google "knows", Google can see if the keywords are the same at the sites.

Yes, one of basis of the algo is topic qualification. And lately, most of the google bombings were detonated, thanks to improve this part of algorithm too.

You definately want relevant links. i mean if somebody was to click your link from a cooking site, and your site was about motorcycles, whats the point in having that link there? because the users of the cooking site are more than likely not to have an interest in motorcycles.

I don't know where you got your info from but you are wrong on all fronts here....

If google can't tell what your site is about, then how does it rank sites for searches?

Well, No. because an authoritative site in an adult niche is still generally less authoritative than an authoritative site in a non-adult niche. I'm not talking about authority in niches.

Just because an adult site is authoritative in it's niche doesn't make it an authoritative site.

Because it uses around 200 factors and applies them to what you search for.
It doesn't keep records like "this is a bike site", "this is a baking site" or "this is an SEO site" though.
