Hey guys, I'm trying to get some affiliates so my site will look better traffic wise and in search engines. I'm also hoping to hook up with some higher page ranked sites ro increase my page rank. I have a anime site, and with anime most affiliates link to each other with banners. I'm not sure if banners are better or worse against text links SEO wise. I'd prefer to use banners. So, SEO wise, which link is better? And If Banners can be used, how can I use them effectively?
Absolute hypertext links (text links) are the best; they have more value SEO wise than image hyperlinks. If you do choose to use image links instead make sure to use the alt="" attribute prorperly.
yep, text links are the way to go because it directly informs the search engines what your site is about (keyword), so use it well
Spot on! Not exactly. For instance, the following example does not tell search engines what your website is about: Read more information about this topic <a href=â€...â€>here</a>. In cases like these you should use the title attribute to provide the reader with information about the webpage that is linked to. Whether the title attribute also carries some SEO value is a matter of debate, but it certainly doesn't hurt to use it. Mind you, I wrote “to use†and not “to abuseâ€. It would then look something like this: Read more information about this topic <a href=â€...†title="...">here</a>.
A while ago, several link-building gurus had a tea party and discussed two dozen or so factors that affect the SEO value of a hyperlink. Although I get the impression that it was basically an attempt to outrank the superb discussion about the Google search engine ranking factors on SEOmoz, the resulting article Link Value Factors on Wiep.net certainly is worth reading. I do not think they have succeeded in outranking the former article, though, since the tea party was organised by a Dutch SEO expert who managed to collect a bunch of unknown Cloggies and (of course) Aaron Wall, Eric Ward (who clearly did not have the best day in his life) and a few others. Especially the third link value factor (the type of link) is very much relevant to this thread; they concluded that this factor has a moderate SEO value, but that was mainly due to some controversy.
