I love making interesting buttons, but I stopped making them after I heard that it's better to use text links for search engine purposes. Can anyone clear this up for me.

Ya i'd recommend Text Links.... from what I understand google prefers text over images, but if you label your images correctly and put all the correct "alt" codes.. then it should be fine... but usually its more work than putting text links... the spiders like text vs images.

As long as you use alt you should be ok. I haven't heard that google prefers text over images as long as you place alt.

I agree with kbeus - haven't heard of there being a problem with alt tags? Same same.

Depend to the niche, entertainment niche, wallpaper niche or game niche etc, images will be better.
Others niche go to Text link

Most of the people I talk to agree with the most of you, they say text links, but I have had better results with images using Alts.

Text links are much better than image or banner links. They get crawled by robots faster than images.

Many underestimate the value of image links. There are a lot of people that search only images. But keep it mixed up so you can get the best of both worlds.

    Hello,

Text links are better for search engine ranking purposes, because you use Anchor Text to help increase your results for specific keywords that you are talking.

Now, if you are just hung up on using image links, which some people are, as long as you include your keyword in the ALT string then you will get almost the same result. Now, please be aware that if you are going to use an image and use the ALT string then you really should only put one keyword in there, because if you put more than one, you may be subjected to the "keyword stuffing" penalty by Google, which can have very bad negative effects on your sites.
