What do you think of Google's banning of Robin Good's Blog for selling text link ads?

All links should be banned and only ad sense allowed.

Haha. They got you :) I think people making $20,000 per year and more will be hard-pressed to drop links.

    google says

"make websites for users and not for search engines"

ok then, i sell text links to benefit users, not the search engines. why should i go out of my way to add a nofolllow just to please google - a search engine not a user:D

    Nonsense.

People forget that text links are a form of advertising. It doesn't have to be that they are just searching for backlinks.

So what if the nofollow attribute is not used.

aint you contradicting yourself. Google never said u dont advertise.

you can advertise using a text link and add rel=nofollow to it. Its still advertisement but not passing any PR.

I'm skeptical that that would be the only reason the blog was banned.

If it's true, though - Google are only cutting their own threats, slowly and paiinfully.

They're getting more and more bloated as time goes on, and soon a quick-acting youngster is going to come along and put them out of their misery.

I start to like your comments, the sarcasm and going straight to the point is interesting combination of how you combine them. :p Tho, you are damn right.

Brajeshwar: Good read, +rep for sharing the URL.

It seems to me like Google has a flaw in the way they place value on different pages, and they want individual webmasters to make the changes necessary to correct this flaw. The only way they can do this is by making sure the webmasters are earning some money with their advertising program, which just happens to be the most dominating program on the internet right now. Basically they're saying display the text links the way we tell you to or not at all, or we will ban your site.

What's that smell? Could it be an antitrust lawsuit?

Reminder for Google: Do No Evil

This seems Google is forcing us to stop link ad's and want to signup their adsence/aswords so that they can also earn some % through your site ;)
