I have the opprotunity of placing my link on a strong site and was wondering on the Text Link Wording

My site is on Renewable Energy. Should I use the term renewable energy as my linking text or go for a more sought after one such as "energy" or "solar" or go for the actual domain name instead?

Does the use of much sought after keywords in a text link boost the SERPs for your site when linked to from a strong site?

Many thanks in Advance for all of your wisdom on this matter! :)

You can use the most competitive keyword/phrase and try giving it a boost, bearing in mind there'll probably be a massive amount of competition and that you'll have to work really hard to keep it going or you can give some of that link love to a lesser phrase and have a greater chance of cornering that.

I'd check your stats to see which terms are getting you good traffic and, if you can add to that, then that's good. Otherwise you could try and "break into" the first page with a slightly less popular term and see if you could corner that niche.

You might want to add the Keyword tool https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal and Traffic Estimator https://adwords.google.com/select/TrafficEstimatorSandbox to your toolbox to get a better idea of which way you want to go :)

What is the best choice? Keyword or keyword-phrase in anchor text?

You need to do research on your competition. Find out out how many times your keyword is searched per month, then find out which competitors rank the highest for that keyword. Remember, use the keywords that need little SEO and get searched frequently.

    Hi Going Green!

I like to check out spyfu.com ... for good key word research... very easy and informative on any keyword you are looking for or at.

And the adwords keyword tool that Lever recommends is great also!

I have read that using "Text Link" is much better for search engines ... you can also put in a title="whatever" inside your text link ... for better SEO.

Titles just ad more Rich Content to your link.

When I put in a text link on my site it looks something like this:
(the .com below is made up ... dont' know if it's a real site or not - lol!)

    <a title="solar energy" href="http://www.renewable-energy-website.com">Renewable Energy</a>

    Hope this helps!
    Dan

do your research on google's adwords toolbar. long tailed KW anchor text would be a better way to start.

Sure, titles in links generate more weight. However, there is a maximum size of words for the anchor text?
