All, I am just about to embark on my first real inbound link building drive and i was just wondering what peoples thoughts were on how to do it? i haave submitted to loads of directories and my number of backlinks according to the DP tool hasnt changed for ages (in google) and is at 65 so what is the best way of going about this? thanks for any replies Mike
Checking your links in Google is probably your main problem. They haven't given relevant backlink information in ages, and do not generally increase much in the amount of links shown anyway. Run your link command in Yahoo for more accurate results. Make sure to add the http:// in the query.. link:http://www.domain.com
I would suggest modifying that Yahoo! query just a bit to read: linkdomain:www.mydomain.com -domain:www.mydomain.com Use the whole line replacing your site url with the "mydomain". You may even try with and without the www. This will show inbound links from sites other than your own.
Google never shows the actual back links of a website.. checkign with linkdomain: in Yahoo! would be the best option
That's one way of doing it, and we've all done it... but its fairly less effective. It can be the only option for some of the authorities and hubs that you really want to get listed in. Its much more effective to find groups of sites that are in the business of exchanging links. If a site has a submit your link form, then they're much more likely to give you a link than if they don't. Try stuff out, its a slow process to build links...
Directories are a good start. Another good way is through writing and distributing articles with your own link in. Post them in the article directories. That way, people copy your article, and put it on their own site without you having to pay or write to them. Of course, the article must have genuine content, and not just be a sales letter.
