Obviously, all backlinks are worthwhile, but is there any difference between using a text link for a backlink, or an image for a backlink and putting the required anchor text in the image ALT tag? Will one or the other provide a better ranking for Allinanchor ? Or would they provide identical Allinanchor values? Someone once mentioned to me that with an image you could put the same text in both the ALT and TITLE tags, and that this would provide a slight benefit, but I've never tried this yet. Has anyone conducted any tests which would give a real indication on this?
title (not to be confused with the < title > tag) has absolutely no impact on anything, and never has, regardless of how it's used. as far as your question... we don't know. if you find concrete evidence, by all means, do share it. I know I always take a text link instead of a graphic link, though- because while it's possible that images may be worth less, we KNOW text links aren't worth less. that, plus most people click on text links than they do on images in most cases.
A text link with keywords has more value than an image with alt tags. Why do you care for allinanchor ranking? No one searches with allinanchor
I believe that John Scott, at www.v7n.com, reported a while back that he found that image links with keyword alt tags, were just as effective as text links in themselves. Alt tags in images that have no links were considered a non issue for Google and co.
It's good practice to use <title> tags aswell as <alt> tags for your imgs - as a FireFox user I often find myself trying to work out what the tiny icons on 1600x1200 screen pages are, and the additional use of <title> tags is most welcome
Well, I could be wrong as I am quite new to SEO, and much less experienced than most on this forum, but, I've been looking at several sites using the Mcdar tool, and there certainly appears to be a correlation between high ranking for Allinanchor and SERPs. I know it's not the whole picture, as there are so many factors used in calculating the SERPs, but I reckon that trying to improve my Allinanchor ranking is going to help improve my SERPS rankings.
It depends are you trying to rank high with google image search? If so then by all means make your backlinks images, I found this out when I made a pic on my site a link and then noticed in google tools I was ranked 14 for pictures of money though it was a picture of myself. Anyway if your website is about images it would be a good idea to use alot of image links though don't give up text links they are the basis for googe search and will help you rank higher in the serps.
Great question - especailly for many of us that are new here. I like the comments about google image search - is this a better way as it appears to be newer? Are they putting more effort inot this type of seach?
I agree..It is beneficial if you use your keyword as anchor text. It will add one backlink from your targeted keyword.
For SEO text is better as you choose the anchor and it contributes to keyword relevancy. But image ads give more exposure and generally more direct traffic
