Text Link Ads - Bad for sellers?

I want to sell links on my site. I was about to sign up for Text Link Ads, but then I noticed they take 50% of the sale price. Isnt that a pretty big chunk? Is it worth it since they have a huge market? Is there a better way to sell links on your site?

Well, they also bring you many sales that you would not get without them. I just signed up for them a few days ago and haven't tried them out yet, but I think that overall they are a pretty good company to work with from what I've heard from others. :)

I've been using them for almost a year and it's been amazing. I've made close to $10,000 from them in the year and it's worth every penny to invest in your site to market there.

I've never bought any links there personally, but I sure have sold a lot. I pull in a solid $600-800 monthly on average just from textlinks and referrals.

I've used them yet though I've signed up over there.
If you think 50% is too much, you could also try to sell your links on "Link Sales" here.

Richie brings up a good point. 50% may be a bit much for you, but you should look at it this way:

TLA is advertising A LOT and I mean TONS, so they have a much larger market than DP does. I do sales on DP here too, but the majority of my sales are strictly on TLA now. 50% may be a bit much, but in the end, would you have had that cash otherwise if you hadn't gone ahead with TLA?

Just a few things for you to think about.

Are there any other places where you can pay less than 50% comission/cut for a link sale? 50% is a big cut.

I think the section on the DP is a good option.

50% cut for TLA does seem very high, but I guess there is a market out there so there is good chance you may be able to sell your inventory.

They pull a premium for their links and charge a premium to sell them for you. It all comes down to who makes you the most money per spot. If I took 90% of the cut but sold your link for a million bucks would you still be looking for someone who takes less? ;)

It's not bad for buyers, it's just the way the system works.

You will never sell a link in Link Sales for the same sort of price that TLA can sell that same link for...ignore the 50%...if you have the kind of site that TLA will sell links on then go for it!

I agree with most of the posters here, TLA does bring in a large chunk of potential link buyers that you'd otherwise not get.

But why not try offering some link spots for sale on your site (without TLA) and write some good copy stressing the benefits of buying text links on your site? If that doesn't work try the Link Sales on DP or TLA.

Yeah, I do exactly that. I sell my sig links here and a few sitewides here that I don't offer on TLA simply because I want more than TLA can sell them for.

I do a lot of small links too on TLA which add up quite quickly and have proven to keep my income at the same level. I have about 80 or so sold links in TLA right now. It generates a good chunk of my income each month :) (I don't depend on AdSense anymore)

Plus, that 50% you're paying them just gets turned out and spent on advertising to get more buyers for your links. It's a win-win situation :)

Yeah, I'm with fsmedia, it is a win-win situation.

If you still don't want to sell through TLA, though, divide by half whatever price they'd sell your link at and try to sell it for a little more elsewhere. You could stress to your potential link buyers that they're getting a 50% discount ;)

You can request a price increase [decrease] too if you want, it's not set in stone for all the prices they set (a little inside hint from me). I do that with every link I post on there because I know what they are valued at.
